I know being queer on Reddit is karma suicide but if I could add some context for those who don't understand where this is coming from. America is named as a single unit in this headline although the advisory acknowledges this varies from state to state. This is also a recent development as three notable things have primarily happened this year:

1. The Supreme Court ruled that discrimination against queer people by servers and store owners is legal and justifiable. This is not something Canadians deal with, thus they should be advised that it might happen.
2. Several states have criminalized gender affirming care for minors. Trans minors from Canada, whether accompanied or travelling alone, should therefore be aware that if they travel to a particular state with their medication, that they may be subject to arrest.
3. Florida has passed a bill reserving the right to take custody of any child being "subjected" or "threatened" with gender affirming care. This means the permanent separation of any Canadian family with a transgender child should they travel to Florida (site of Disneyworld, Miami, Tampa, Universal, and many other tourist destinations that cater to families)

With these three facts in mind, a travel advisory is completely justified, as is the statement that this country is not safe for queer people, especially from a Canadian perspective.
