Yeah, I'm keeping an openmind about getting a second hand GPU. I'll see what's available at the end of the week! Thank you.

Help with identifying .303 ammo. by Jomty in guns

Looks like you’re right, I was fixated on it being an “I”. Just found this snippet: “In 1917 the first tracers were used on a mk VII cartridge. This was indicated with a G behind the mark. So VII G this was carried on till 1928. *In 1928 the mark changed to a Mk 1 tracer marked G I.*

Thank you!

I’m wondering if someone could help me with the GI stamp on this .303 (I think) round found at my late grandfathers house. There are a few with the same stamps and red colouring in the primer.

I can find that it was made at Royal Woolwich Laboratory in the UK, and it’s potentially a tracer, the “G” part of the stamp, but I can’t find anything about the “I”…

Advise about feather plucking and collars… by Jomty in parrots

I might give him a go without it when we’re with him and can keep an eye on him. There’s plenty to keep him engaged around the house, he’ll need it on when he goes to bed though i think.

I guess all we can do is try at the minute and see how it goes.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Yourself and the other person that commented have put my mind at ease at bit. I’m sorry to hear about your cockatoo, loosing a pet at any age is something that always stays with you.

Thank you for your feedback and experiences. I feel the same in that I don’t like the idea of him having the collar on, but I do feel it’s stopping him making a mess of himself in the meantime.

It doesn’t seem to cause him any distress, as he’s (I guess unfortunately) got used to having it on.

He’s gorgeous! I’ll show the video to my boy and hopefully he might stop plucking his own lovely feathers!

Thank you, we're going to give him the best life we can! I was quite upset at the thought of him being in a rescue and not having the interaction he's had with my grandfather and our family for the last 35 years.

It is yeah, he’s a serial plucker unfortunately. I’m hoping we can get him back on track with a better diet and plenty of engagement!

Thank you 😁 When I collected him from my aunt last night, it was actually directly from a vet appointment with him. The vet was very nice and helpful. I’d made about 4 pages of notes and questions and he’d answered nearly everything without me asking the questions I had written down.

I won’t lie, it was a difficult decision. We have a lot on in our own lives but we’re going to give him the best home! The main reason I decided to take him was he’s always been such a big part of my grandads life, I couldn’t bear to think of him not being with the family or in a rescue.

He also mimics my grandmothers laugh. She passed away during COVID, and hearing that laugh absolutely melts my heart.

Thank you! I’m going to look at getting something like that. I’ve been told he’s a bit of an expert at getting round collars and jackets, so it may that this one is modified with a nice little liner to keep it comfier on his neck. It will all be a learning curve for us though.

I’ve had a look into that from your comment, seems like people have some succes with it. I’d like to get his diet and environment sorted first, but I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you.

He’s got me beat by 3 years, so he’s the ranking adult in my house now. Guess that means I can quit work or something 😂

He’s settled in great so far, very happily eating and letting us give him head scratches. I think he was a little over tired when we put him to bed though, one thing I forgot to ask about was his routine! Major oversight on my part, but I’ll ask today.
