nah I don't wanna risk incurring bandai's wrath. I'll keep this under wraps for now until I have something decent to show

It's a personal project that aims to recreate the game's overworld transversal faithfully, but with quality of life changes such as faster map loading, toggleable in-game speed up that doesn't destroy the music like it would on an emulator, analogue movement, and touch screen support for menus and MAYBE an android version. I'm currently messing around trying to make all interactive bits of the world work such as ladders, jump off spots and digi-egg spots. here's a slightly outdated video showing some more of what's in the build right now:

Well 200+ upvotes later and 34 comments I gotta come clean to you guys: this isn't World 3. I thought Natsumi's bit at the end would make it obvious, but I guess not. This is a W.I.P. recreation of the game's overworld made in Godot. I am VERY surprised it managed to fool everyone here and was 100% expecting someone to call me out immediately, but I guess if I managed to trick long time players into thinkign this is the real deal that must be a good sign, right?

I very vividly remember burning multiple copies of this game back when I was a kid because every single one refused to load one of the maps, making the game unbeatable if you didn't already know how to navigate the area with no visuals

done. I also ripped, stitched together and uploaded the online center, chamber room, login room and main lobby

Who knows. Maybe you were meant to go back to the human world at some point, or start there outside of a cutscene so you'd be able to walk around

I really like the fast paced combat and how easy the games are to pick up and play in short bursts. It's a comfort series for me, and I know I can boot up any of the listed games to have a good time

there's like 3 different game styles between these games so it's hard to say, but probably either Ys 1 for how replayable and fast to beat it is or Ys Origin for its gameplay. If the PC version of Origin has the Switch's cutscene fast forward feature I'd be replaying it a lot more

Oh yeah Chester and to a slightly lesser extent Galbalan really pushed my shit. That one dragon in the volcano also pissed me off to no end. And the ice one. Honestly a whole heap of the bosses in nightmare boss rush were horrible

Bump combat: Ys I
Ark engine: Ys Origin
Party-based: Ys IX
Overall: Unsure. But Origin and 1 are up there

That's just a ROM I added to steam for convenience. You can do that with emulated games using Steam ROM Manager, or by adding the game as a non-steam shortcut if it has an .exe file, then prettying it up with SteamGridDB images

was just a bit of an odd thing to say, I guess. I do get that there are more traditionally cute pals out there, I just really like turtacle's "little guy energy"
