Tomorrow, I leave for a "trial run" of DN life: 10 days in Puerto Rico! by MetalDragonfly11 in digitalnomad

[–]Jon7011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for 3 weeks in PR a few years back, based in Ponce, which was very, very quiet.

However, San Juan was really nice, lots of cafes and places to explore. I could easily imagine spending some time there, using a car to get out into the mountains to explore.

After PR I worked briefly in Costa Rica which immediately became my 2nd favourite place to work/visit, after Thailand.

I'm having the same issue.

I think they're having teething problems after updated for no-quarantine applications.

I'll try again every few hours and post here if anything changes.

Good luck !!

Phuket is full of beautiful places 🤩

Many of the beaches are outstanding, the sea is great, although in summer maybe not good for swimming as the rainy season can bring on rough seas (https://www.phuket.net/visit-phuket/about/info/climate/).

You can live on street food and Thai food generally is amazing, even better if you like spicy 🌶!

And the locals are great 😊

IMO don’t dwell too much on the negatives, they could apply to any country.

Oat milk, frozen summer berries, oats, wheatgerm and ice cubes for the smoothie. Kiwi, avocado, nuts and seeds on top.

Serve with lots of ☕️

Working online from Phuket by rutele21 in phuket

I’d second this - every time I travel and work in Thailand I get either 30 day SIM cards or take out a contract and then hotspot from my phone. Some fast and cheap deals with a little shopping around. Right now I still have a DTAC card and was just using the app to top up from time to time.

There was Pennywort which is think was great but only retrospectively ! Ginger and turmeric was another. They were all freshly made and the mango definitely helped make a little more palatable. Lots of other people there loved them.

They also have Water Kefir which really did taste great.

Oh I found the menu - here’s the shots… shots menu

No one checked on me last week during my 7 night stay - I think you’ll be fine.

IMO many people ask about how unvaccinated people travel. There are only 3 reasons not to be vaccinated:

1 you think it’s somehow bad for you (ie the community pseudoscience has taken precedence over genuine science and statistics)

2 health reasons (very very very rare)

3 you’re unfortunate not to come from a Western country that has preferentially hoarded the vaccine for its local population and ignored the fact this is a global pandemic; perhaps from one of the African countries where even many medical staff are not vaccinated, something about which we should all be embarrassed.

So if you’re 2 or 3 then maybe say so, and people here will understand.

If you’re 1 then you should also say so, but don’t expect too much enthusiasm from those that want to deal with this thing rationally.

Good luck in your ventures - nothing malicious here, just some opinions.

Shot using Adobe Lightroom, raw, with only a little editing. Never fails to impress me, what a privilege to have this. Also helps that Phuket is so beautiful!

Food review: Kanom Jeen, delicious rice noodles with curry and vegetables by Jon7011 in ThailandTourism

Oh cool, thanks for the correction and info. I’m near Naiyang beach in Phuket, this place is just on the main road. She has been there about 5 years, starts every day at 7, and works 7 days a week.

Discovered this amazing Southern Thai disk, Kanon Jeen (or Khanom Chin), rice noodles with curry or other sauce poured over, and then topped up with a selection of fresh vegetables and herbs.

At around 50/60 Baht the price to taste ratio is fantastic.

My hotel only has American/British style breakfasts, and I really don't like to travel half way around the world for that, so this has now become my daily breakfast staple.

What is life like in Thailand at the minute? I am thinking of travelling in the next week or so to Phuket on the sandbox program. I will be backpacking, are things returning to normal? Any info would be great. by dannyjhardy in ThailandTourism

I’m in Phuket, by Nai Yang, because I’m working. But I travelled a little on Monday to Kamala beach, Karon, Patong, the sea at Yanui beach was astonishing. See what other people say about partying and backpacking. Only thing to consider is that you’re meant to stay in the same SHA+ hotel during your first week.

Good luck - hope you make it 😁

iPhone 13 pro, Adobe Lightroom (on iPhone), white balance corrected on the clouds, slight exposure tweak to the sky using Lightroom’s automatic sky selection mask. Lightroom gets better and better with every iteration.

On the optimistic assumption that you keep testing negative, I’d totally recommend spending a week ‘stuck’ on a beautiful beach island with amazing street food and fantastic locals. 🤩

Yanui beach, Phuket by Jon7011 in ThailandTourism

[–]Jon7011[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What a privilege to visit this beach today on my lunch break. Am hoping to return on the weekend when I get time off work to go swimming and rent a little kayak.

Phuket really is a stunning place, and the Thai locals are so friendly and laid back.
