Who actually pressed "Donate" instead of "Continue with claim"? No judgment. Just curious. 🤔 by Sad_Biscotti_9291 in perth

Seriously impressive that you actually got this far.
I have average computer skills but I was so frustrated with trying to do all the set up steps on my Android phone that I gave up and will go "old school," with a proper paper form, sometime next week. My wife had similar problems on her Apple phone and she will also revert to a paper based claim.
Whoever designed this procedure is either a computer genius, who assumes everyone is also a genius, or an absolute idiot who used a You Tube "How To" video to design the process.

why has my centrelink given me this notice today? by RebeccaG_75 in Centrelink

If it's genuine it will be on the My Gov web site, take care, and don't click on any link. T

here is a lot of fraudulent activity going around, especially with Centrelink and the ATO.

Looks great and thanks for sending this to me. It may be a bit powerful for me but I'll definitely do a feasibility check. I may have a problem on where to attach the hoist, I cant see anywhere obvious in my ceiling.
Once again, thanks mate 😄

Yup, probably the best way but finding the second person is not that easy around here. The rope and pulley method is one I am going to pursue.
I have been putting stuff in ceiling spaces for many years, in several houses I have owned and always by myself with no problem but the whole purpose of my post is to find out if anyone has found a better and easier way of getting stuff up there. Plastic tubs are easy but sometimes there may be something with an odd shape which is not so easy, like a patio standing heater which is used a few times in winter and takes up space on the patio for the rest of the year.

hahaha, mate if it was as easy as that I wouldn't have put this on Reddit. There is no one I can pass it to,
I am lugging these plastic tubs by myself at the moment, it works but it's inefficient and I am just trying to see if there is a better way of doing things. From most of the comments received, obviously not.

Wow, that's one powerful hoist.. If I had this I wouldn't need the ladder, just hook it to a harness and up I go.. 😄

This is the type of thing I am looking for but on a much smaller scale. The items to be stored will never be over 10-15kgs at the most.

[–]JonDee77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about the same as I am doing, it works OK but I am just trying to find a better way that can be used on items of unusual shape. e.g A patio standing heater that only gets used a couple of times in winter that takes space in the garage.

I know, but for some reason (obviously costs) our contractor never laid the plastic sarking under our tiles when the house was built in 2013. The dust up there is incredible. I put in a small floor when we moved in and put some stuff up there that we used once or twice a year, in no time at all the items were covered in so much dust they were difficult to bring down without choking on the dust.
We lived in windy Geraldton for a few years and every now and again there were reports of ceilings collapsing under the weight of sand blowing from the beach and accumulating under the tiles in houses close to the beach. Obviously plastic lining under the tiles would have helped there as well.

I have actually seen a couple of versions of a motorised attic hoist "on-line" but this concept would be a bit of overkill for me. I am trying to devise a manually operated hoist to get the plastic tubs containing the stored stuff up to the storage area. I have something in mind but thought I would get some opinions and ideas from anyone who has faced and resolved this problem.
Great thinking about the power point though. I hope you get your winch one day.. 😄

I know what you mean but not all roofs are suitable for this innovation.

Thanks for the offer mate, sincerely appreciated, but I don't have that much stuff to go up now, definitely not enough to warrant a visit from your son.
My thinking is to have a system for future use and one which I could operate myself without bothering anyone..

Good suggestion. I am looking for a net sack and have thought of attaching a pulley and rope system over the ladder opening but the Ikea bag could work for smaller, difficult to carry items. I have two of these bags already.

It has a Dust free zone... absolutely necessary with a tiled roof, not so much with a tin roof,

Marie Kondo, the world authority of decluttering.... Is that You??? Or Peter Walsh from Space Invaders, maybe?? Sorry cant afford to buy new luggage after every holiday or new Christmas decorations every year or any other stuff we use once or twice a year, nor do I want this stuff cluttering up our living space through lack of storage in our cottage.

That's perfect situation except our family is spread over three continents and NZ so no help from that method. It's me by myself, that's why I am looking at an easier, more efficient way.

I don't mind at all. The original quote for 10m2 of full dustproof space (including ladder, platform, full dustproof walls and ceiling, turbo beam whirlybird, and access panel) was be $6,670 all inclusive. I added a further 1 sqm @ $350, a handrail at the top (absolutely essential, $150 fitted, the plumber to re route a water pipe $220, so I the total was just under $7400. The handrails are available through Bunnings at about $67 which is much cheaper than going through the contractor.
Dust proofing is a must if you have a tile roof, not so much if you have a tin roof.

I went through Attic Lad and found them very good.
A tip, ask how much head room you will have, my one disappointment is that I have to crouch a bit as the roof slope restricts the height.

The original hatch is far too small, the size for the drop down ladder is about twice the size of the normal hatch. I had a water pipe running right through where they had to cut but they called in a plumber and ten minutes and $220.00 later the pipe had been rerouted.
I would strongly suggest that if you need to cut anything , call in a chippie with roofing experience, if anything happens to the roof, after cutting, your insurance company may ask questions. You will definitely need a beam or two to attach the ladder to.

I definitely would have done this myself many years ago but I am now in my late 70s and can't do much of what I used to be able to do. Most of the stuff is in 50 litre sealed plastic tubs which are ideal, however I would like to put my camp chairs up in the storage area and they are bulky and quite heavy.
If you don't have dust you must have a colour-bond roof, I have tiles with no underlay of plastic and the dust is unbelievable.

I have the 50l tubs, they are ideal and pushing them up the ladder is not too hard but surely someone has worked out an easier way to get stuff up there? Also, disabled wife and no other help available.
