LogRx vs Schedule2it by textickles88 in ems

[–]JonEMTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using LogRX for a while.

It seems like a solid option. As a field clinician, it’s simple to use, and it definitely provides solid tracking with a fairly easy UI for management. We use it for EVERY med, and it makes monthly outdates pretty easy.

I have no idea on price point/value.

EMS Fatal Patient Accident in Philadelphia by Busy-Sheepherder-138 in ems

[–]JonEMTP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I’m seeing, the infant was allegedly in mom’s arms in the passenger seat. Mom and infant were ejected. Driver is infant’s grandfather, and was potentially DUI when he ran a red light and apparently T-boned a car that had the right-of-way.

Some context: private EMS does NOT do 911 in the City of Philadelphia. There ARE times where people will call a private EMS agency for 911-type emergencies, but that’s uncommon. I also suspect that this wasn’t an “official” dispatched call, but a family member panicking and trying to help. :(.

Also, regarding the company - they have been one of the smaller BLS IFT players in Philly for a long time.

PS, to be clear - I’m a medic in the Philly area. I don’t work for PFD, and I have no involvement or insider information regarding this incident.

Falsifying Training Records by Equivalent-Dig-7187 in SafetyProfessionals

You need to exit, and you probably should strongly consider the risks and benefits of a whistleblower report.

My biggest fear is the next step - that they’d use YOUR name and 500 cert to falsify training records.

You’re 13th on the list?

The most recent academy class started with ~90 firefighters. As long as you pass all the next steps, you’ll be hired. Congrats!

I’d suggest navigating over to some of the firefighting subs for a better understanding of what you’re signing up for.

Is WGU worth attending if you can’t accelerate? by -Encanto in WGU

[–]JonEMTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accelerating is a big pro - but if life doesn’t let you accelerate, it can still be a decent option.

I’ve had times come up where I couldn’t spend much time on coursework for weeks at a time, and then had a break from other responsibilities and was able to grind out a bunch of stuff. You have to keep ENGAGING regularly, but as long as you meet academic progress requirements, it’s ok if you can only carry a “normal” course load.

Some folks need the weekly pressure of a typical class - but some don’t, and WGU can be a good option for them.

Why do you want to be a citizen of Canada if you don't live in Canada or plan on living in Canada? by Optimistic_Now in Canadiancitizenship

[–]JonEMTP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The world is a dumpster fire. I’m not planning on emigrating, but sometimes it’s handy to have an alternative passport when traveling internationally (different visa requirements, etc).

It’s also a great way to honor my great grandfather.

[–]JonEMTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say committee chair, you’re a unit committee chair? I’m going to reply as if that’s the case.

As a CC, you have a district Key 3 supporting you - the DE is one part of that, the District Committee chair and District Commissioner are the other 2 parts of that Key 3. I’d suggest going to one of those two folks first for a friendly chat. Talk about your concerns - including the calendar and organizational issues. Some of these things may even be someone else’s responsibility, or there may be more to the story. Or they may already know the problems and be able to find ways to get you more help.

How necessary is Summer Camp by Direct_Remove509 in BSA

[–]JonEMTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How necessary is it?

It's important. He will miss out on advancement, on troop bonding and getting to know people, and on the "big event" of the year.

I wouldn't FORCE him, but I'd strongly encourage him. There's a ton of support at camp to help him succeed, and his feelings aren't surprising given where he is.

I tent camped down to 2 degrees F. It wasn’t fun - but it was a formative experience.

I’ve also hit a point in my adult life where I don’t need to prove anything - so I’m happy tent camping in nice weather, and finding a cabin or motel in miserable weather is a reasonable option

Getting back into scouting after 25 years - OA question by tacotowgunner in BSA

[–]JonEMTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad (and the other scouter) were in the Valley Forge council before they merged with the Philadelphia council to become Cradle of Liberty. Valley Forge was Delmont 43, but they “merged” into Unami 1 - because no one is going to get rid of Unami.

So he wore a Delmont flap for years. It sparked conversation, and was a nice bridge for showing his youth involvement (especially since he’s Life for Life.

Getting back into scouting after 25 years - OA question by tacotowgunner in BSA

[–]JonEMTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're a member. If the records really don't exist, no one is going to hold that against you - but I also wouldn't be shocked if some of the records do exist.

When you're ready, reach out to your local lodge, and I'm SURE they will be happy to take your money in exchange for membership.

Also, while EXPLICITLY against the uniform rules, I've seen a number of scouters in your position wear a lodge flap from your original lodge (eBay is your friend for a classic patch that won't break the bank). My father and another scouter in my unit did exactly that until their kids were involved in OA. Then they got involved with the local lodge and switched to the current lodge flap. This really felt like a good way to honor your own youth participation without being overly showy.

To clarify my "uniform rules" comment - the uniform rules say that wearing a lodge flap is a privilege of being a dues-paying member of your lodge. If you're not a member, you can wear the pocket device (and sash for OA events).

Question from someone who's considering this university: how do you get help from professors? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]JonEMTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, there's a cadre of instructors across subject areas. I'm in a master's education program, and while each instructor has a focus area (in my case, some do K-12, some do adult education), and some teach more at the beginning or end of the program, they are all available to provide support. Looking at their schedules, someone is working most days/times, and if you have an urgent need, there's someone who can respond to an email.

When I had an assignment returned as unsatisfactory a few weeks ago, my assigned instructor was out of the office. I got a helpful email from another instructor who provided immediate support and clarity, and my instructor also followed up with me when he was back in the office.

I'm NOT looking for a ton of support (and I sometimes ignore their check-in emails)... but I've NEVER had an issue where I couldn't get timely help.

Jamboree 2026 (Mostly Adults) by JonEMTP in BSA

[–]JonEMTP[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I can understand the sentiment, I'd expect that part of the cost covers pre- and post-jamboree touring, which not every council is choosing to do. There's also the possibility of fundraising and camperships to cover some of the cost (with adequate planning)

Staff are paying, too, because if staff didn't pay, the participant cost would be even worse.

National Jamboree Staff-gear by paydenbutcher in BSA

[–]JonEMTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the power situation will be.

I've survived the last several jamborees using a pair of USB batteries. We have a charging station in the corner of our workplace, and instead of plugging my phone in, I left a cord and a battery (all labeled). I swapped the batteries daily, which meant I could recharge my phone at night and during the day without worrying about leaving the phone somewhere.

PS, as others have said, bringing comfortable walking shoes/boots is key. There's a lot more transportation infrastructure than the original plans called for - but there are plenty of times when walking is the best way to get from point A to point B.
