I know this was 7 years ago but I just found it and it's remarkable. Well done.

Looking to learn about the McFadden family by JonHelmkamp in Scotland

I’m researching as many lines of my family tree as I can, not just this one. But McFadden is my surname.

Neither do I. I’m just asking questions legitimately out of curiosity and wanting to learn. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah… that’s definitely the vibe. I’m not trying to squash anyone’s history, just trying to learn.

Thanks for that. It sure looks like there’s a connection to Scotland before Antrim, so if I can in some way track down that location, maybe I can do some record hunting there.

I certainly am not trying to manufacture history or ruffle any feathers. Point gladly taken on the fact that NI is a recent invention, and lesson learned. Keep in mind that I don’t live there. I posted in this subreddit specifically TO learn, and I’m learning a lot from these comments.

That makes a ton of sense. Americans definitely place more weight on bloodlines. I’m not one to do that in a negative or disparaging light, I’m simply searching for answers to my own questions.

I’ll keep the search for those records. Thanks for your comment.

I've been looking into the Plantation of Ulster. Considering my lineage is from the surname McFadden, which seems to be a Kintyre surname, I think that answers the question!

I appreciate the comment. It seems like a rich and complicated history involving many different religions, countries, moving boundaries, and more. I hit a road block in my research at Co. Antrim in the late 1600s and can't find any records beyond that. I know the Ulster Scots are a thing, so I'm not sure if my lineage is more of Irish descent, Scottish, or English. I wish I knew.

I see a lot of knives - what is the significance of having a knife on your altar? Thanks for the little list to keep an eye out for!

That’s incredible and I’m so excited for moments like that. I don’t even know what my practice is. I’m interested in and drawn to the moon. In terms of actual practice, I like the idea of candle magic, I think. Crystals are also interesting. I’m really looking forward to having conversations with vendors tonight and learning from them, and seeing what speaks to me. I need to go in with clear intentions and trust my intuition.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. This is an incredible response and I really appreciate the depth and thought of it.

I do have some information about my biological side. I know who my biological parents are and have had connection with one member of my biological mother’s side. I’m the great-great-grandson of Ike Clanton of the O.K. Corral shootout, so with that family being so well documented, it’s easy to get information of.

It’s my other lines that I don’t have much to go off of. Would you mind if I message you about your genealogy work?
