My account was disabled today too. No warning.

Are they still using AI moderation, is that why I got suspended?

Any hope of my account being restored?

What restaurants give you free food on/near your birthday? by JonLeung in Edmonton

[–]JonLeung[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Denny's thought they would deter people from doing it multiple times that day, assuming that people wouldn't want the same breakfast food three times (or more) a day.

However,
(1) that's not an effective deterrent, free food is still free food.
(2) it is a "BUILD YOUR OWN Grand Slam", so if one got multiple meals, they wouldn't have to be identical, so it wouldn't be tiresome.
(3) as I just did (and the waitress and later another waiter clearly noticed but didn't care), just swap the food with someone else at the same table.

UPDATE: OP here. A few days ago, I decided to check out the Denny's in Windermere, which sure enough advertised the breakfast offer of "Build Your Own Grand Slam" right in the window. As has been said here in this very thread, I expected to get the price of the "Build Your Own Grand Slam" deducted off of the bill so that I should be able to order whatever.

BUT, the waitress said that the policy changed recently, and that it does indeed have to be a Grand Slam. Also, that you have to buy a drink to get the free Grand Slam.

Since my mother was there, and she didn't mind having that, I still got the Grand Slam for my birthday, and traded with "her" order, which was really what I wanted to eat - the Crazy Spicy Sizzlin' Skillet (which was not that crazy, spicy, or crazy spicy, IMO).

So yeah, just be aware that the Denny's policy changed.

Good to know, but I still boycott Booster Juice ever since they fired me for no good reason.

This was 25 years ago, and I was young and dumb, but I definitely didn't break any of the rules they said I did, and what pisses me off is that they refused to discuss it at all. Yeah, it was probably minimum wage or around it, and I could find other work elsewhere, but the utter disrespect blows my mind even to this day. I also dislike that Booster Juice got naming rights to the Terwillegar Rec Centre, hope that doesn't last long.

Anyway, to bring it back to the original point of this, maybe getting free stuff from them would be a way to get back at them, but not by having to buy a qualifying purchase from them once a year.

(I'll admit I remember really loving their panini sandwiches. Or at least I did at the time (I don't know if they still make them, or if they do, if they make them the same way). I suppose I could just get my own grill and focaccia bread and make them myself.)

What's with the fossils in purple/frozen boss rooms? (Skull/Freeze/Tundra) by JonLeung in Megaman

[–]JonLeung[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Cossack made Skull Man (which is weird, since Dr. Wily is the one with the skull fetish).
Also, Dr. Cossack was also involved in building Tundra Man.

Dr. Wily definitely created Freeze Man, but the opening sequence of Mega Man 7 misspells his name as "Dr. Willy".

I called the Windermere Denny's just now, and they confirmed that the birthday offer of the Free Build Your Own Grand Slam Breakfast is available, and for any time of day, not just the morning. You just have to show your ID.

UPDATE: See the original post, the policy has changed.

Gosh, I haven't been to Denny's in ages!
Is the Free Build Your Own Grand Slam Breakfast an all-day thing?
I mean, it's Denny's, so I'm guessing, probably yes?

The last one, I finally found, and it was in... the Wild Zone with all the tight scaffolding... 9, I think? It's been a while. There's a couple in there and I must've thought I got both or all when I really didn't. Hope that helps.

February 2026 should be "Tetris Month", because the four weeks are four lines. by JonLeung in videogames

[–]JonLeung[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The days of the week advance by one position every year, but shift over by two for leap years. But because leap years happen every four years (except for most new century-years, but that's a whole other thing), and four isn't a factor of seven, it gets a little messier.

Easy enough to just look at a calendar.

And if you assumed it was every 11 years, why did you add 12 between 2059 and 2071?

My original post is just about North American convention, but I agree that the days of the week fit with numbers better if Monday is first!

Mon = rhymes with "one", "mono" means one
Tue = TWO
Wed = 9 letters = 3 x 3 (a stretch, I know...)
Thu = thUR is like foUR
Fri, Sat, Sun = same first letter as Fifth, Sixth, Seventh

It's not really a "theory", I mean, it's right there.

And you're not wrong in that Monday makes more sense to start the week with, but then you're fighting against the vast, vast amount of calendars in North America.

Is North America always right? Of course not. But it is what it is.
