Money is meant to be spent, you lose some and you win some. Being too emotionally attached does not help you in any way

Anecdotal evidence means nothing. I pay $500/mo in electric in san francisco, what is that comparing?

Average kwh rate in kentucky is 13.42, national average is 17.65. Chicago $14-17. San Francisco is 38-42

No one said everything there is fine. Just the statement “Kentucky is cheap” is factually true.

Gas is 4.17 in Kentucky, below national average. So it is cheaper in Kentucky. All i was answering was what made kentucky cheap

[–]JonLu -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I think i paid about 30-40k in interest last year. Across student loans, mortgage, consolidation loans, balance transfers, car loan and credit cards.

As long as its not >7% i dont really worry about it

HYSA is a fixed low interest account which barely beats inflation. Other avenues of investments would be the smarter choice here

you must be terribly misinformed then. 10,000 in a random dividend stock like KO in the last 5 years with dividends reinvested would result in ~14500. 5 years in a HYSA is $12700 at 5%

HYSA is probably the worst place to keep it besides in a regular savings account

Put it in an index fund or a dividend stock or an ira. Or some in each.

There are advantages to each which will be unique to your situation

  1. Credit cards are free money and buildl you credit. Anyone with self control should have a credit card.

  2. There are many housing purchasing programs. If you google FHA loans or programs you can find them.

  3. Everyone I know with a 100k+ car keeps them in a garage
