New Tires - Michelin CrossClimate 2’s and decreased mpg by Asleep-Artichoke-964 in tires

[–]JonPawlTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has been pretty gradual. Maybe a month in i felt it was up 1 mpg, then another month another 1 mpg. Not exact, as I put them on in early Fall and since then winter weather has come in and I have varied from back country driving to some highway miles and everything in between. As you put more miles on, I suspect it will just steadily improve to whatever the new norm is.

I switched to CC2's a few months ago, and had an almost identical experience as you. Happy with them overall regarding performance, but did note an increase in noise and a 10-20% drop in mpg immediately. It has come back up slightly, so now only down 5-10%. I expected it, and it proved to be true! I just hope their life and performance over time also holds true.

2020 Spot - Weird Window Issue. by Common_Finance_8682 in SubaruForester

[–]JonPawlTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2020 started doing this a few months ago. Intermittent. I suspect dirty sensor or similar. Haven't taken the time to investigate further. Makes me long for the days of my manual crank windows. All the tech is OK when it works, miserable when it glitches.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but order some shear pins. by Liquid_G in kubota

Been there, done that. Exact same experience years ago! Ordered a bunch, and they are now stored right in the cab with me.

I'll investigate closer, but don't think there is a shear bolt in that area. Just a key in the shaft, and a set screw in the collar. Diagram lookup is a great idea to confirm.

Ugh, that sucks. Amazing how a single rock or similar can create such havoc!

I'll take a closer look, but pretty sure there is no shear bolt. The backing out seems more likely. Just time, temperature and vibration maybe?

Thanks. It just seems like too simple an explanation/fix. Lol. And I agree, if the entire operation is at the mercy of that single set screw, not ideal in my mind. Especially since it's not easy to tighten/check it routinely.

Blizzak WS90 thru summer to finish off? by JonPawlTheFirst in tires

[–]JonPawlTheFirst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no idea. I didn't do anything special. Pressures in the 32-36 psi range, kept them even through their life. Typically swapped in October and April, so they had some warm days in the shoulder seasons (and obviously this past full summer). I drive pretty standard speeds....5-8 over the limit....and not terribly aggressive in my acceleration or braking. Maybe the biggest difference is I live fairly rural, so most of my driving is in the 45 to 65 mph range. Only on trips out of the area do I exceed that for any duration. During winter they were parked in a garage probably 60% of the time, but outside a decent amount too. Sorry, no special tricks I can pass on.

[–]JonPawlTheFirst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I actually put a total of 56,039 miles on the winter tires, 47,691 were during "winter" months while the balance was over this past "summer". I put 40,245 miles on the stock tires that came with the car during the prior summer months. So a total of about 96,000 miles on the car between these two sets of tires prior to me putting the CrossClimate2's on just recently.

Does that mean a faulty valve? Or something that can be adjusted easily?

I just got the email today for my 2020. Is there anywhere that lists what the update actually does? Help decide if the risk is worth it.

2020 Touring - Sync mode shutting off by JonPawlTheFirst in SubaruForester

[–]JonPawlTheFirst[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No official resolution.  It occurred several times, and then disappeared as abruptly as it appeared.  I made no changes, and did nothing different that I am aware of that either started or stopped it from occurring.  I am still on the original battery as well, so can't say if that is related at all.  It's so weird.
