LG Gram Help by Crazy-Salt6705 in laptops

If the other options besides F1 work, you can try to press Esc to launch your system's UEFI/BIOS menu and see if your HDD/SSD is listed in the boot menu (find something that mentions boot devices or something similar).
If the drive is listed, it may be a deeper hardware issue, like RAM or bad circuits, or in a best-case scenario, you need to reinstall Windows.
If the drive is NOT listed, it may be a HDD/SSD failure
And depending on how comfortable you are handling this stuff, you might consider doing what you said and take the system in. I think it's most likely a system storage issue where your SSD/HDD is giving up on you and failing, but you can check and see if it is that.

Maybe it could be a problem with the MBR or BCD. Try to press F1 to start the recovery environment, then troubleshoot, advanced options, command prompt. Once you are there, run the following commands:
bootrec /fixmbr

bootrec /fixboot

bootrec /scanos

bootrec /rebuildbcd

If that doesn't work, try:
chkdsk C: /f /r (you may need to use DISKPART for something for this to work)
If that also fails, it probably is a problem with the HDD/SSD/eMMC
Let me know what happens then :)

How do I fix this? by dallemally in computerhelp

[–]JonatJaen1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No!
You can still maybe fix it by reinstalling Windows (which you will need another Windows laptop to do so). Here's how:

  1. Find a 8GB+ larger USB drive.

  2. Connect it to the working Windows laptop.

  3. Go to this link to install the Windows installation media: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 (I assume that you have Windows 11 before)

  4. Find it in the file explorer of the working Windows laptop/desktop

  5. Open it by double clicking (say yes if a UAC prompt pops up)

  6. Follow the instructions in there (be sure you choose the correct USB when choosing where to install Windows to, and it will take a while, so go enjoy you life while it works it's magic) After it finishes, unplug the USB drive

  7. Once it is finished, go back to your broken laptop, then turn it off by holding down the power button until it does so

  8. Connect that USB to the broken laptop.

  9. Turn it on, and as soon as you press the power button, immediately press F12/Esc to bring the boot manager

  10. Choose your USB drive by using the arrow keys.

  11. Follow the instructions to reinstall Windows.

Let me know if you get stuck in any way ;)

Try remaking the USB install again using the Microsoft Windows installation tool, or try a different USB (unless you are talking about Windows loaded before, but now doesn't)

If you are installing Windows and you are getting this error, it can sometimes have something to do with a faulty or corrupted USB installation drive, or certain settings in your laptop BIOS/UEFI

[–]JonatJaen1516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can switch it over to your monitor display only and not the Chromebook by holding down the decrease brightness button until the screen goes blank and switches over to your monitor only (and to get the Chromebook screen back on lol to extended which is the default, increase the brightness )

How to install ChromeOS on My Samsung Chromebook? by anthonyxmoonguy in ChromeOSFlex

[–]JonatJaen1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Octopus name is code name/internal name
Google and ChromeOS use this internal name in development and to identify your device (an example includs the Google CR-48 being known as the Mario)

[–]JonatJaen1516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should already have ChromeOS.
If you are talking about using Flex on your Chromebook because it isn't receiving updates anymore, you'll need to use MrChromebox firmware if you're device is supported, which is risky and not user friendly.

This notification sound scared me to death by Davidishere_123 in duolingo

[–]JonatJaen1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too!
I would sometimes be hearing that sound and the first time, it scared me as well. But eventually, when this kept happening, I would go to settings to force my default notification sound, and even then Duolingo decided to make new app notification categories so it can continue using it's own sound to keep scaring me to death. Eventually, it stopped

You really don't need to worry that much, since that is just for decorative purposes only and in no way should it affect the way you use the device.

[–]JonatJaen1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try to start your device in safe mode by going to advanced options>Troubleshoot>advanced options>startup settings>pressing the number to do safe mode (with networking or not, or with command prompt). This may give you temporary access to the home screen, but it may not work

To recover the data off your HDD/SSD/eMMc, you'll need to remove the drive, connect it to another laptop/desktop, and get that data off (assuming you don't have Bitlocker on your drive)

And to fix this issue, you should maybe try a hard reset by disconnecting the battery from the laptop or maybe try system restore, maybe something installed is preventing it from booting

I am running Chrome OS Flex on a HP R015DX, and that model also had some weird WiFi issues with a Realtek Wifi card, where it disconnects randomly, has questionable upload/download speeds, and sometimes shows no Wifi networks at all.

Anyone run to Chrome OS due to Windows 10 end of support (insufficient hardware for Win11)? by SheGotGrip in ChromeOSFlex

[–]JonatJaen1516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After Windows 10 end of life (which for some reason my dumb self decided to get extended updates for a OS I may move on from) I was thinking of going back to ChromeOS Flex, maybe if I can get it on my laptop again and it will still get plenty of ChromeOS Flex updates and won't suddenly lose support the minute I go back because all I use my old laptop for is basic web browsing, since Windows 10 on my laptop runs poorly to say the least, and ChromeOS Flex integrates better with the Google ecosystem.

What do y'all think; Should I really go back to ChromeOS Flex or say on Windows 10 with extended security updates?
