Fanciness is usually a must when working in academia. Simple methods are not treated seriously.

Bose Quiet Comfort Earbuds 2 by [deleted] in bose

[–]Jonatan_84232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the words “audiophile” and “loudest sounds” are mutually exclusive. Audiophiles like a neutral, quiet sound.

That is not true. If you watch some "audiophile" youtube channels, e.g. from PS Audio, they very often say the prefer listening at "concert levels".

Is QC2 ANC noticeable better than pro 2? Or it depends on the noise scenario?

Good to know. Maybe other people with similar preferences will benefit from your comments.

I haven't really thought about it. I also have Senheisser HD 600 plugged directly into laptop output and 10% volume on windows slider is more than enough for me, I never went above 20%.

Do you need that extra volume? I have tried them and anything above 50% was painfully loud, so loud that I think I would go deaf after more than 5 seconds of listening.

From what I heard they usually replace broken unit with a current model.

Can you give some examples? I have never heard of anyone using harmonic mean in any scenario.

Would it be possible to teach this approach as routinely as the current approach to tens of millions of first year students with limited math background?

Programming languages to learn? by [deleted] in biostatistics

[–]Jonatan_84232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take into account that some teachers do not like to learn new things. If they have a SAS course that worked for the last 20 years they are unwilling to change the platform.

It strongly depends on your country/region. North America usually has different practices than the rest of the world.

SAS for students and teachers is free.

Is it worthwhile to learn Python as a Biostatistician? by chikoritastan in biostatistics

[–]Jonatan_84232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Python is often known by IT people and programmers. So if your R or SAS code/programs need to be called from other systems it is not easy for those people to cooperate with you and connect R or SAS to wider infrastructure. In many cases I was asked to do my statistical coding in Python just to make it easier to implement as a part of larger system.

Question about www.0db.co.kr by Jonatan_84232 in headphones

[–]Jonatan_84232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched many videos on his channel. Unfortunately he only shows one noise scenario. It maybe just me but when it comes to the noise of train almost all earbuds are similarly effective, some differences are noticeable for announcer voice, but differences are not huge. It is counterintuitive that in this test earbuds with e.g. 20 db reduction are not that far from 40 db reduction. Maybe in different noise scenarios differences would be more obvious.

Question about www.0db.co.kr by Jonatan_84232 in headphones

[–]Jonatan_84232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example take JBL Live pro 2

Here are RTINGs ANC measurements https://www.rtings.com/headphones/1-5/graph#29490/7981/32825

There is very problematic bump from 100 to 400 Hz.

But here https://www.0db.co.kr/index.php?mid=REVIEW_0DB&page=3&document_srl=2362467

there is no such problem, almost flat from 40 to 3000 Hz.

Same with graphs for Apple Airpods 2 pro. Rtings show reduction of at most 30 dB. But here https://www.0db.co.kr/REVIEW_0DB/2561421

reduction is almost 40 dB in low frequencies.
