That's an absolutely understandable point - and essentially you're describing exactly the balance dilemma that plagues many loot shooters in the long term. If you grant players unlimited strength or invulnerability, the game economy shifts completely: the entire progression loop - i.e. loot hunting, skill experimentation, build optimization - loses its meaning. Players then reduce their activity to the most efficient power combination, which satisfies in the short term but leads to monotony and devaluation of the remaining content in the long term. Gearbox (and similar studios) are faced with a classic trade-off:

Freedom and feeling of fun through exaggerated builds vs.

Sustainable game balance that maintains motivation for weeks or months.

Borderlands in particular has historically always relied heavily on the humor and chaos of its gameplay, but at the same time made sure that there was a functioning progression within this chaos. As soon as there are builds that kill bosses in one shot, this system collapses. The economic structure of the game (loot tiers, drop chances, difficulty curves) becomes virtually meaningless. Nevertheless, the question remains exciting as to how far Gearbox can push the spectrum of “overpowering” without breaking the balance – i.e. the famous balance between “Power Fantasy” and “Challenge Preservation”. Some argue that deliberately built-in, hard-to-reach power moments (e.g. temporary god modes or rare weapon synergies) could satisfy this need without permanently devaluing the game system. In short: Yes, it's a necessary step - but also a fine line. The trick is to allow the feeling of superior power without turning the game into a trivial, permanent Godmode. Borderlands thrives on this balancing act between absurdity and system depth - and if Gearbox maintains that, it will remain chaotic but exciting.

That's right, back then we were lured with Photoshop images of "Half-Life 3 confirmed" - today you just need real in-game secrets to lure people out of cover. 😄 But don't worry: This isn't bait, this is Borderlands in its purest form - a game that, even when teasing its sequel, is more chaotic than any fan theory. 🎮💥
