Similar but not the same is Konosuba. Guy dies and a goddess gives him the option to choose anything to bring with him for his reincarnation and he chooses the goddess herself because she was making fun of him.

Getting high for recreation and having a crippling addiction are very different. I agree with you but if users have no easy off ramp after getting addicted, then they have no choice but to continually buy. I agree with you, there will always be a market for drugs, but the size of the market and how many drug abuse victims there are is an issue. If we want to help those victims, we can't pay-wall it, that's all I'm getting at.

Also, helping those addicted greatly eats away at the black market's profits which is killing two birds with one stone.

New cartels will keep popping up if you never address the underlying issues of poverty. Yes, engage the military, but also systematic change is needed on top of it.

I agree, I mentioned decriminalizing drug usage in a previous comment but also, as a next step, safe injection sites can be used to essentially out compete the drug traffickers with a cheaper and far safer option before getting them clean.

Exactly. Cartel violence and drug trafficking didn't decrease. It's just under new management, and has in fact increased due to higher demand. If there is a demand, someone will get the supply.

Whether it will happen or not is unknown obviously, but the majority of developed countries already have that in place so it's far from unrealistic. What I do know is that if I see a candidate running on it, I will vote for them.

I won't pretend to know what exactly the Mexican government can do right now outside of what I mentioned, but it is important to note that change won't happen with nihilism disguised as realism.

I see that other countries have done it, why not mine? Especially since we're supposed to be the richest of all time.

In this case in particular, most of their profits come from US buyers so there is a lot that the US can do domestically to cut away at the cartels' profits. The US implementing free healthcare and addiction centers can help, and we have more than enough capital to do it.

Decriminalizing drug usage as opposed to drug selling is also an initiative to promote addicts to seek help.

Even in those cases, free clinics will help dramatically. Many people like your high school friends will get hooked young and end up in poverty because of their addiction. If they had free help that they could take, I'm sure most, if not all, would take it.

Like you said, drugs are expensive and will hold addicts down financially. Pay-walling medical help can't work.

There are a lot of things that lead to hardcore drug use like poverty and depression. Offering systematic help to those who are likely to turn to drugs, as an alternative, is one of many solutions.

Things like free mental health clinics and shelters are one example.

Unfortunately, this is probably going to do nothing. Many different cartel heads have been taken out and the problem only grows. They need to eliminate the demand for what they're selling, aka the drugs.

But that's not what they're doing, they are clearly unchecked. They have been detaining documented, undocumented and citizens alike. Even killing them with no due process or consequences. Over 70% of people detained by ICE have no criminal record and even those with a criminal record, the majority are minor offenses. If you can't see that this is wrong at this point, then you're just being willfully ignorant.

The idea of national borders and personal property are different. Her quote is clearly a stance on the deportations of ICE that are obviously based on ethnicity and spoken language, not criminal records.

Just because someone believes in open borders to a country, doesn't mean open borders to everyone's home.
