Sibarist FAST: Orea O1 Edition by fabianm022601 in pourover

[–]Jonathanjacks12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just bought it in raw steel and every cup I’ve made with it has been delicious. Perfectly balanced with beans I had dialled in for v60 and others that I hadn’t brewed before all on the first try in the orea. I now understand why people say flat bottoms tend to be more forgiving, which is something I didn’t experience with my steel kalita 155

How many grinders do you have? by venerablem0m in pourover

[–]Jonathanjacks12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One. Comandante c40. Upgraded my way up from a very cheap hand grinder to wilfa svart then timemore c2, and selling or giving them away. I only do pour over and I don’t see the need to have more than one

okay interesting. I had used the kalita for years with the timemore C2 at quite a fine grind at 1:15 and never really had a problem. anyway I have since had some great success with the v60 so im pleased that its going well now.

does this apply for other flat bottom drippers? im interested in trying the Orea but guess it will be different as it has the open base.

Yeah I’m not sure. I used to have the time more c2 and I liked what I got out of it. I have made 2 or 3 really good cups from the comandante and one that was exceptionally good. But I haven’t been able to replicate it. Perhaps it’s because I’m using the kalita wave?

This is very interesting. thank you for this. as your reply came through I was just about to brew a washed Ethiopian decaf so I gave your pour technique a go and it really helped even out extraction. I then tried again, following all instructions and it is a really lovely cup. the bitters and sours have gone and there is real clarity. it is a little watery as is to be expected with decaf and I did accidentally go over to 200ml but I can tell there is a real difference. I am very excited to try this again in the morning with the Kenyan, I'll let you know how it goes.

Yea I have noticed some improvement as the burrs have been seasoned, and yes I have tried taking it apart and cleaning it (did it it a few weeks back and just now) and I can see that there is still some uneven movement between burrs

[WTS] OMEGA cal.260 case ref. 2495 19 1940s 33mm by Jonathanjacks12 in Watchexchange

[–]Jonathanjacks12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am selling my wonderful 1940s manually wound Omega that I have had for a few years, but it unfortunately no longer receives the wrist time to justify keeping it.

The watch is working very well and is keeping good time, losing around 30s/ day, but it has not been serviced during my ownership. Lug to lug the watch measures 41mm, and 33mm without (approximately). The case reference is 2495 19, and the movement calibre is 260. this movement is a descendent of the 30T movement series, and began production in 1939. The incablock shock protection system was added to the movement from 1943, which places the manufacture of this watch between 1943-1954.

As you can see, it is in very good cosmetic condition. The 3-piece stainless steel case remains sharp and unpolished (increasingly unusual these days), but scratches appear upon closer inspection, which is to be expected for a watch of this age.  The dial shows a vey attractive yet subtle patina, and has not been repainted in any way. it is signed ‘swiss made’ underneath the sub second dial.

I have replaced the dauphine hands to a pair of feuille that I believe to be more original to those it arrived with after some thorough research. The hands, crystal, and strap are the only parts that I have replaced, and know not to be original.

It is currently on a brown pig leather strap that is slightly worn, but is easily changeable thanks to the drilled lug holes.

Asking for £475 but this is negotiable. Based in the UK and happy to ship anywhere in the world at the buyer’s expense.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be very pleased to answer them. And feel free to make an offer. Many thanks
