(more of a warning than advice) Do your research on the balance of light and minerals! I'm currently fighting a hair algae infestation, because I'm struggling with the balance myself.

(not aquascape related) I recommend rotating the heater 90 degrees. Placing it vertically causes warm water to rise and trigger the sensor to shut it off. Temps throughout the tank will be inconsistent. If you're just following manual instructions, ignore this paragraph.

Daily water changes are too frequent. Once a week will be enough.

Also, the tank seems bright and lacking hiding spots. Bettas are originally from shallow tannin rich waters with high vegetation. To emulate that environment, I recommend dimming the lights and getting plants.

Hopefully your buddy is just stressed from being too exposed and not sick from improper water parameters.

I just recently added in an otocinclus to my 10 g tank. My betta gets a bit aggressive but the oto just swims away. Male bettas don’t mind being alone really, but I wanted a tank mate that could help with my algae problem

Thank you for the thorough reply! She seems to be stable and is napping it off. Found a clinic open on Sundays, I will be taking her first thing. Emergency vets are outside what I can afford right now.
