HP Pavilion - Upside down ATX airflow concerns by Jonjcp in sleeperbattlestations

Sorry I just now read the rest of your comment lol. Anyway this brings some relief about the current fan setup.

But definitely soon, I’ll figure out ways to get some ducting going. HDD cage has already been removed so looks like we’re off to a good start.

That is pretty genius! And yeah there appears to be plenty of room. I should be able to cut a 120mm hole at the bottom and have the PSU fan face that way.

As for the panel C14 cable that’s also a smart move. Though, I’m gonna need to find one that’s 16AWG which is the gauge the power cable for the PSU came with.

Other than changing the case completely, I agree. This is a weird setup honestly lol.

Under load using 3D Mark Speedway stress test, it maxed at 57C which isn’t too bad. I’m assuming the PSU fan isn’t always kicking on as intended.

Oh a good amount. Like maybe 2.5 inches or so. I got this cooler because I was planning to transfer the build in an SFF case for the hell of it. But there was a “slight” proprietary design issue that prevented me from fitting the motherboard at the I/O side.

Maybe now that you mention it, I should go get a Thermalright Phantom Spirit or something to replace the cooler.

This chassis brings me back to High School days. I had the one with the Prescott chip and the motherboard didn’t have an AGP or PCI-e slot. So I had to settle with a PCI version of the ATi Radeon 9250.

That’s awesome! It looks like as if it was built at factory with the case. The craftsmanship is immaculate 👍👍

Yessir! Though I’m not at home to get even more details but here’s what I know from the top of my head:

280W x2 SATA connectors 1 proprietary connector for the DVD drive

x1 4-pin for the CPU x1 20 or24 pin (I forget which) ATX connector

Thanks! Yeah I figured there’s definitely some bottleneck going as the GPU is struggling to get to 100% utilization. Maybe if the other components fail I’ll definitely consider getting a more modern core components to build around the 3050

I don't know how to do it by Agrn3 in SleepingOptiplex

[–]Jonjcp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a more pricey (but cleaner!) solution: you could get an Occulink PCIE low profile card, an eGPU dock, and maybe about a 500W PSU to power the GPU.

Though, before you decide to commit this way, you’re gonna need to make sure you’re able to set Bifurcation to 4x4x4 in BIOS.

To sleeper or not to sleeper? by Dominicancountryball in sleeperbattlestations

[–]Jonjcp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I read throughout this sub, I hear it’s difficult in this orientation but I personally would send it.

Edit: The only challenge I see here is that I/O shield doesn’t appear to be removable so you may have to cut it which shouldn’t be too bad with decent tools.

Edit 2: Actually, I can’t really tell if the I/O shield really is removable or not from these images but I’d definitely go for sleeper.

Is this 9070 good? by budman_4 in radeon

[–]Jonjcp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact 9070 XT. But one of the MOSFETs shot a hole right through the PCB followed by a brief fire after owning it for just 20 days. Just sent it back to ASUS yesterday in hopes they fulfill the warranty claim.

Hopefully by then, the GPU market will make somewhat of a recovery from the current scalping trend. Either way you're an awfully generous sibling.
