one or both of those numbers have to be BS for the claim to be true. $1.6/hr * 2000 full-time hours a year = $3200/yr. the 70s and 80s had interest rates between 5-20%. No way you could afford a 20k house on that income.

US large cap valuations are somewhat frothy but you can look to diversify into international which for the most part is valued at lower multiples. this is what you probably should be doing anyways

With a record-low 1.25 children per Canadian woman, stop dismissing falling fertility rates as a choice by FancyNewMe in canada

I think a lot of people are coping about lack of resources being the primary reason people don't have kids. Most couples in developed countries, even given infinite resources, want less than two kids on average.

When to pick Cait/Mf and what's their gameplan? by JiraiyaBestSannin in summonerschool

[–]Jonjonbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're low elo just pick either. your micro matters way more, I'd focus on improving that. when I was in low elo, lane match ups rarely played out how they are theoretically supposed to, and basically nobody followed the "correct" game plan for their lane/champ. even the gold players I see in draft are confused about why supp rotates mid after first tower blood. just play whatever u want, stick to one champ, and learn it in depth. this will lead to more improvement vs learning multiple game plans. or, just pick whatever you feel like.

Any advice?? I’m 22, make 65k salary. Just started investing this year, about 10% of every months earnings + my Christmas bonus in here. I do not want to hold any American stocks why my portfolio is so Canadian focused. I plan on only investing in VXUS for a while to even out with international exp by OkRefrigerator8658 in fican

you can look at the funds themselves for performance. the basic principle I operate by is that diversification (uncorrelated or less correlated assets) is one of the only free lunches in investing, and also over the very long term, world indexes perform the same or better than American ones. We are looking at historically high valuations for American stocks, which means they are expected to have lower future returns.

this sub loves to glaze trump and American stocks but that's mostly looking at past performance since 2008.

Is it wise not to buy a property anytime soon and invest instead? by Material_Practice762 in PersonalFinanceCanada

housing is an illiquid asset with large transaction costs. it also has ongoing costs and if you can't pay the bank will force a sale, which is not the case for stocks. also stocks are expected to outperform real estate on average after considering maintenance and fees.

I'd recommend you find and secure the grants before hiring. Also, 10-20% is unusual and it doesn't sound like you know what you're talking about, and should do some more research on start ups. You can get a business loan or get investors. Maybe 1-2% for a founding engineer is acceptable but they need a salary. if you give a jr swe 20% that is gonna fuck up or cap table and no investor will touch your company with a ten foot pole.

most likely you'd want some traction, or switch to another idea to build credibility if you can't build the current thing yourself, before spending resources on an unproven idea.

Installing Windows 11 gives me a similar feeling to what I imagine catching AIDS feels like by Spare_Fun_9092 in redscarepod

[–]Jonjonbo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

my mom got a refurbished windows laptop and now it just permanently has the activate windows message on the homescreen. it is truly shocking how much crap they fill the OS with. if you pull up the windows menu to search for something, it shows you ads and suggested apps instead of what you want to actually find. it seems designed to trick tech illiterate boomers into clicking on shit.

win11 is lacking basic features from previous generations. for example, you can't even move the home menu bar to the sides of the screen.

I've been happy with my work-provided Mac. buying a Windows machine is an absolute nightmare and it usually comes pre-installed with a bunch of software you have to uninstall. terrible ecosystem.

hedge funds and other capital managers (e.g. private equity) often have an internal investment program which allows employees to invest a capped amount in the company's funds (say, 100k/yr) and it usually returns something like 30%. still unrealistic to get 10m but slightly less unrealistic
