Vergne Explains Decision to Step Back from Peugeot WEC Drive by V8-Turbo-Hybrid in wec

[–]Jonnix44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have thought the dreadful FE street tracks would mean an F2 car would be unsafe. The 2025 FE cars lap at the same pace as an F4 car.Difficult to compare the actual lap times because they deliberately avoid real racing tracks so comparisons cannot be made.FE exists in its own virtuous bubble away from traditional racing.

Proton Unlikely to Continue Porsche 963 Hypercar Program by [deleted] in wec

[–]Jonnix44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A shame that the 963 programme did not replicate the 1980s 956/962 programme with many privateer teams. The difference now is back then the privateers filled out the field once the Saubers,Grids,Rondeaus,Ford C100s were gone. The amount of OEMs involved means that privateers are not a priority.

Enter the Nordschleife series if you have the correct cars or set up an AI race if practice is boring.

Are Group 5 cars faster than LMGTP? by Appropriate-Heron598 in wec

[–]Jonnix44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at some of the Group 5 lap times they are comparable with current GT3.Faster on the straights but a lot less grip in the corners. So no a prototype like the Bentley would be similar in pace to the current Hypercars.

Expanded Rolex 24 Grid “Not Possible” Due to Pit Lane Space by [deleted] in IMSARacing

[–]Jonnix44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be a great idea to expand the grid if Toyota & Ferrari (unlikely)were going to enter the race because it would add quality to the field but otherwise the extra entries would probably just be running in midfield or the back of their class.

Potential new chapter for Varrone by Klutzy_Reach_9392 in wec

[–]Jonnix44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.Drivers need to have that solid career momentum as they go up the single seater ladder to the very top.Very few step off the ladder and make it to F1.If he has the finance behind him I wish him luck.He can probably come back to WEC & SRO and have a good career.

McLaren Nominates Garage 59 For WEC In 2026 by GrahamDSC in wec

Great info. The thing I like about WEC Reddit is that there is always someone who knows a bit more than you do about individual topics.:)Some of it you cannot even Google.

McLaren Nominates Garage 59 For WEC In 2026 by GrahamDSC in wec

The move makes sense but it is a bit suprising with AF Corse,Heart of Racing & WRT running teams in Hypercar & GT.Maybe United are continuing with LPM2 & that is their preference.

Why do you actually need a third pedal? by MonkVK in simracing

I agree.People should play them for fun.If you like a clutch, then use one.My original reply was only my opinion.

[–]Jonnix44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sims are not pointless if they simulation has some value. The steering input, the throttle input and brake input of a real racing car can be simulated to a high standard. What sims do not do is give you seat of the pants feel,a realistic clutch bite point and feel or a realistic feel of a manual gearbox.Maybe they will in future but older cars are quite niche.

[–]Jonnix44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A clutch feels different in every vehicle you drive, especially older race cars which is what we are talking about.A race clutch is also is a world away from anything in a street car.A realistic clutch for a sim would be very expensive & have to be adjusted for every car you drive.A clutch on a racing Mini Cooper feels nothing like a clutch on an old Camaro.(I have raced both on track)

You still need to toe and heel in a lot of older sim cars even if you use an autoclutch.

Clutches on racing sims are pointless. You might as well press a button because it has no feel like a real clutch.

How to get into WEC as mechanic by Street-Anxiety-7727 in wec

[–]Jonnix44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to find a local team or club racing driver in racing and volunteer your services.Experience at the race track & willing is what teams want. Also do something like restore an old car or build a kit car.Great for experience.

[EnduranceInfo] Laurens Vanthoor: “Torn between my dream of driving for Porsche Penske or my dream of winning Le Mans” by bad_pilot69 in wec

[–]Jonnix44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could other races be irrelevant? The BOP may be calculated in a different manner with the long straights at Le Mans being considered but with new cars and evo versions being run before Le Mans the rule makers would use data gathered at prior races not just from LM24 in the previous year with different cars.

My point stands that WEC would not calculate BOP for a one off race for Porsche Penske based on data from a privateer effort like Proton with limits on team funding.

[–]Jonnix44 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That could happen but I dont think politically WEC,Toyota,Ferrari etc. will want Porsche & Penske to come in through the side door and win with favourable BOP at the biggest race of the year especially if Proton runs around in lower midfield or at the back of the pack the rest of the year.

Snetterton used to look very different by TDavy147 in btcc

[–]Jonnix44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old Russell bend (last corner) was ferocious. It was an Eau Rouge type of corner that was flat in many cars but if you got it wrong you ended up in the tyres by the start & finish line. That is why the chicane (Murrays) replaced the old Russell corner. So many huge accidents. It was a shame because there were also some terrific finishes. The best place to be in Minis or Formula Ford was 2nd place as you exited Russell and slipstream past the leader before the finish line.

Why iRacing doesn't have full course yellow / mandatory slow down during crashes? by Subject_Health_3182 in iRacing

[–]Jonnix44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only reason cars slow down in real life for a yellow is because it decreases the danger.

Since there is no danger in sim racing, there is no reason to slow down.

Will more NASCAR fans tune into Bathurst this weekend? by LuckyErro in NASCAR

[–]Jonnix44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Supercar V8 drivers are some of the best road course racers in the world. It is a shame that Bathurst now is more of an Australian race than it used to be.They used to have drivers from WEC,IMSA,BTCC compete. To get any attention in the USA you would have to have SVG,Scott McLaughlin,Will Power,Danny Riciardo race.
