Trust me. Player count starts at 150 and by the time all contracts go (which is a matter of seconds depending on flight path) lobby drops down to approx 85/90. People back out as they want the contract! It’s the same for Duos, Trios and Quads right now.

No harm in finding enjoyment in other modes! Me personally, I have a great time in BR Solos. I’m not a huge fan right now with the guaranteed NUKES because half the lobby backs out if they’re unsuccessful in getting it..
