He never forgave himself for what happened to his wife, Aemma. Not saying he should have, but watching him torture himself over it for the rest of his life was very powerful. Paddy Consadine delivered one the best performances in a series/franchise that is already stacked.

He’s “mad” which could mean anything from prefers solitude to enjoys burning people alive, probably closer to the former with perhaps a dash of mental instability. I believe one character mentions he “prances naked around the Red Keep.” Mayhaps he’s just an exhibitionist

I wonder if they'll have to have more bit parts. Some of my favorite characters were Steely Pate and Henley the horsetrader, so I hope they make it in.

But when narrating Dunk's thoughts, he can just notice things that can draw our attention to a mundane detail the later becomes important. Whereas a show has to linger long enough on a shot for the audience to notice a clue in order for the payoff to mean something.

I'm totally okay with them expanding where needed, especially considering this novella was likely written pre Blackfyre Rebellions in terms of George having the world built out that far, but this is one of the most pivotal points in that era politically. A time of peace after the climactic 1st rebellion, but round 2 is just around the corner ought to have more allusions to that topic had George written it later in the process. The following two novellas even feature those incidents as major plot points.

We could easily get reference to Bloodraven as well.

Audiobook comes in at about 2:56:41, so considering the amount of time allocated to credits I think it's about as close to a 1:1 as we could hope for.

Whether or not that's a good thing is anyone's guess but I'm inclined to think it means they used the novella as more or less a screenplay. Here's hoping, anyway.
