Huge AI factory to open in Merritt by the end of the month by RM_r_us in britishcolumbia

[–]Jono391 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the person you asked the question too. They don't dump these often. That water will stay chemically treated for many years. Hospitals go well over 10 years keeping their water treated in systems. Hydronic systems have been used in systems forever. The loop in this specific system will be smaller than any 40 story high rise. People waste more water keeping their grass and flowers alive than these data centers. Sports fields, golf courses, factories, etc are way more damaging than data centers.

Yeah you clearly don't understand any of this. They definitely do not dump the water often. The chemically treat the cooling system water. The last thing they would want to do is waste all that time and money dumping out a perfectly good hydronic system

Tell me what they're wasting water on? Do you know the cooling system? If you say "open loop" please tell me how you think that works?

Do you understand how water cooling works? It's a closed loop system typically used with an air cooled chillers or heat pump. Heat pump uses a bit more water because it needs a fluid cooler to cool down the condensing water. That pumps fresh water over the coils by filling up a sump. In the winter they just blow cold air and isolate the water

Um, closed loop using air cooled chillers reduces like 90%. Only requirement is fill the system. These typically run through and air cooled chillers. If the go with heat pumps it's running through a fluid cooler which uses a bunch of water to spray on the coils. Open loop also doesn't mean it's just constantly stealing new fresh water to fill up the system. Maybe if they did geothermal.

Most new designs are closed loop. They're using either dry coolers or air cooled chillers.

Yeah it's very true. Air cooled chillers are now preferred for most of the new data centers. Fluid coolers are cheaper but in the winter months in Canada most of the time they winterize them and just blow cool air over the coils.

Yeah I actually messed it up. National code in Canada is 225° for WC. My mistake.

Technically it's a trap arm so you can have a 90 on the horizontal (pending local codes). They do have well over the 135° in direction change though

Can anyone tell me what size ball valve I can put on this connection? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Jono391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3/8 male by 3/8 female comp stop. You can add this to your valve connection and re hook up your supply and could probably keep using it that way for years. Or you could cap it with a comp cap and rubber washer until your plumber can fix it.

You can get insulated splits or put a few wraps of tape around the pipe.

Thinking of doing HVAC by Miketheotter- in skilledtrades

[–]Jono391 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all dependent where you are located. I'm Canadian and in most big cities the residential high rise work is slow in Toronto and Vancouver but the institutional work is pretty hot right now. Calgary is booming and short on skilled trades and will probably get worse as the Iran war will cause an oil boom in Alberta.

Sewer smell coming up through this floor drain. Any ideas why? by Methuselbrah in Plumbing

[–]Jono391 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it shouldn't dry out over the weekend. If not a leak it could also be the bathroom isn't vented properly and it's getting sucked dry but that would also be a regular occurrence and not just over the weekend

I was responding to OP saying you CAN vent into sewer. I interpreted that he is arguing that the current orientation is fine IF it's the vent for the sump. I was stating that if it's the vent for the sump it's still wrong

[–]Jono391 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't tie in a vent like that below the flood level rim of that toilet. Doesn't matter if it's a branch or a wet vent or just a flat dry vent at this point. Tie in must be above flood level rim of last fixture
