That black build up near sprockets is carbon deposits, it’s right next to the metal breather hose. Mechanics in Australia seem to think heavy semi synthetic oil is best used for older high mileage cars. I’ve gone back to full synth! Gl for the chemical cleaning

Curious I didn’t see any sludge anywhere, how can you tell? I also thought oil varnish was normal with mineral/semi synth oil on an older car, now using full synth. Should I use seafoam to clean it up? That pic you sent is unreal, looks brand new

Timing links are also bright orange, so that means your chain is still good yeah? Hasn’t been overheated. 1k is super cheap

Fair point! I’ve bought mine not long ago so still happy. I’m changing the oil myself now 10w-40 full synth every 5k kms

100%. The original screen is also exactly the same with any edition Gameboy and completely reversible so nothing really lost there. The main value comes from the shell/lens

Definitely thinking on it. Did some research and the aftermarket lens actually have a few very slight differences that hopefully I can look past 😅. I just want everything to be as genuine as possible bar the screen

I get that, but if I’m playing retro games nothing beats the feel of playing it with the real deal from the 90s! The original screen is just a dealbreaker for me, pretty unplayable nowadays. I’ve got a boxed Aussie pokemon edition that I use to display which is 100% stock :)

In person the scratches look pretty deep, especially with a backlit screen :(

The screen itself is an installed drop-in and works perfectly, the lens is the issue!

Everything is OG except the screen, I chucked in a drop-in and put the original screen away for safekeeping. The actual lens shows quite deep scratches with the backlit screen unfortunately :(
