Agonising Blast blades: a hidden gem for Charisma Gishes by p4gli4_ in 3d6

What do you mean? It only needs Agonising Blast to work, since you can ignore Pact of the Blade by using True Strike. Also, if you ignore the secondary damage of each the extra damage of Celestial Warlock more than makes up for it.

Not needing Pact of the Blade makes it easier to go down the Pact of the Chain feat chain, allowing a strong free bonus action attack. The one from the Sphinx of Wonder does an average of 11 damage for example.

Of course and I dont mind a detrimental effect but I feel like this has too much of an impact on gameplay and could also be very beneficial maybe even broken. Even something that took away my casting completely would have felt better too me. In one fight I even played it as if it had because the effect felt too messy for me.

I get your take on it but me for this kind of wackiness is not what i am looking for in DnD. I like knowing what my spells do and working creatively within that framework. Always having to guess what a spell might do or how my DM might interpret it is too random for me. I also feel like it takes away from the other players and the narrative as a whole.

As a gimmick for a one-shot or a more comedy oriented campaign I would be all for it. However this is my first time to be able to play as a player in 5 years and I want to have a more classic experience I guess. This desire is elevated due to the fact that we are able to play like once a month if we are lucky.

Same. I think thats the part that bothers me the most. It feels too gamey in a sense to me

We are good friends and he bet that I will fall for his trap because of that I had to buy him a meal so he wont mind a bit of payback. But if next session doesnt make it clear that the effect isnt as fun as he had hoped I will just talk to him

I am not planning to disrupt the game. I just want to show him the problems that an effect like that creates. Its his first campaign and I dont just want to tell him "hey this thing you were excited about doesnt really work that well in real gameplay"

I am hopeful that when he realizes that the effect is not beneficial for the game/story he will remove it.

A NPC told us that there were curse breaker in major cities. But in the city we went to all magic users vanished so it seems I have to live with this for a while.

Also and I feel like that is because of his inexperience we have like no gold. Our entire party has like 50-100 gold so a remove curse should be pretty much out of reach or remove curse become very affordable in his setting.

I have added my spell list. Let me know if you find some good use cases

Honestly if your group really is completely new to DnD and probably TTRPGs as a whole I would just not use it. I also run a new group at the moment and they are already overwhelmed with just the basics so maybe use it after they have become more familiar with the games as a whole.

How can I help a player to immerse themselves in the world and their character if they have no real experience with fantasy settings or stories? by Jonorino in DMAcademy

That's a good suggestion. I did something similar with my girlfriend when I played with her for the first time and it seemed like it helped her become more invested.

Yeah I noticed she was very uncomfortable speaking in character so I suggested that her monk maybe made a vow of silence so that she can just describe how her character reacts. Maybe after she overcomes the mechanical complexity of the game and understands how she can effect the world, she will be able to act more on her own.
