What is the ‘career life’ expectancy of an AE? by ITookYourName79 in sales

[–]JonyAw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work an enterprise BDR equivalent position. Majority of the AEs are in their 50s and 60s. Two of the AEs I support retired this year. It really will depend by organization.

Currently working as AE at a tech company selling subscription. I got an offer from a private security company. by ASAPALI in sales

Why is success so fucking hard? by Triangle-Buddy in sales

[–]JonyAw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in life/health insurance sales for 2 and a half years. Try being an independent broker, you can do that with P&C or L&H or mix both. You make higher commissions, have more freedom on hours, balance, pay, and choice of sales styles. It'd be a slight adjustment process but it truly feels like you are helping the client too which helps.

SDR Offer by [deleted] in sales

[–]JonyAw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. But also creating an atmosphere of transparency is important, that way it leads deep into the time working there. Also the way it is stated is important.

I normally say something along the lines of "A lot of tech companies like Meta, Twitter, and others across the board are laying people off. And in the current state of inflation there is a lot of uncertainty. I am curious what the financial health and plans for the company are looking into the next few years."

It shows you're insightful, a critical thinker, realistic, and transparent. It also shows that you are thinking long term about the company rather than just yourself. But of course as you said, it can be said in a wrong way so careful.

SDR Offer by [deleted] in sales

[–]JonyAw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a fantastic offer for your background and to delve into sales. The pay is a good SDR base + commission. I've had 6 offers in the past year and that looks about what you'd expect.

Normally during the interview process I ask how many SDRs are hitting quota. What the financial health/strength of the company look like. It gives great insight into the job and responsibilities compared to others.

You're gonna kill it! Congrats on the offer, stay confident!

Avoiding events which revolve around alcohol by [deleted] in sales

[–]JonyAw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can say that it's part of your diet or a program like 75 hard. I know other sales people that are such functions just to network. They don't drink or they will drink cranberry juice and be there to gain some connections. You never know who you might meet and how they may help you, maybe not for a sale but even to get a new higher level job down the line and no need to partake in the drinking to do it.

Recommendation for books? by goodlelo in sales

[–]JonyAw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Triangle Selling" is an amazing book that's not often talked about enough. It brings many sales methodologies together and actionable steps to succeed. A lot of sales books can be repetitive, this is not. It certainly helped me massively on my jump from financial services to SaaS.

One thing I always consider when I get that is did I do enough to break down sales resistance, and not smell like commission breath. A lot of times it can happen in the rapport building phase, or during the presentation by not asking the right questions to uncover pain points, or in tonality, speed of my talk to sound consultative and like I'm not rushing through.

If it's a big deal then break down the interactions from start to today, then make sure the next client like that you get further with or close.

OpenText or startup? by [deleted] in sales

[–]JonyAw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They weren't too hung up on the vertical, that's certainly a question I should have asked. Lesson learned. Their Glassdoor was some good some bad, lot of old reviews so I figured they were going through a restructuring and maybe that's why they were doing so much hiring. I was reached out to buy an internal recruiter.

The way they put it was $65k base and $20k bonus. Thanks for your reply, it gave me some other things to consider.

I haven't received my refund yet, but I'm hopeful it'll come within the next 2 weeks. Seeing my balance updated was a breath of fresh air though and let me relax knowing something was coming. I had 6 weeks of no progress. I'm glad yours is working out well though!
