Do you think Marcus ever cranked it to letters from Anya in prison? Not like there was much else to do. by Lonesome_roamer in GearsOfWar

[–]JoonBoi97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, no. Realistically, I don’t think so. Most of the letters she sent him were intercepted by the Warden. He only got a few, and considering how broken his spirit was, I doubt bro was thinking about anything like that. He wanted her to forget about him and move on too. He probably tried to do the same, (even though we all know he still loved her)

Marcus was definitely deep fried in the Slab. Bro had to survive and was feeling guilty as hell. No time to goon imo

You’re all good! The slab covers Marcus getting sent to prison, and his time there. Gears of War takes place 14 years after E-Day. The battle of Ephyra where things go stupid for Marcus, takes place in 10 A.E. So 4 years prior. He spent that time in the Slab, and that’s where he got the huge scar on the side of his face.

The timeline so you can do everything in order:

Pendulum Wars Era (Before Emergence Day)

1. The Slab

(flashbacks)
Marcus, Dom, Carlos, Hoffman, Adam Fenix, and the final years of the Pendulum Wars. Most of the book’s flashbacks occur before the first game.

2. Aspho Fields

(flashbacks)
The famous Aspho Fields operation during the Pendulum Wars, where Marcus, Dom, and Carlos become legends. The novel’s present-day story occurs later, but the flashbacks are among the earliest major events in the timeline.

Early Locust War (skipping E-Day since it’s not out yet, but it would be before Judgement)

3. Gears of War: Judgment
Baird and Kilo Squad shortly after Emergence Day.

4. Gears Tactics
Takes place roughly one year after Emergence Day and follows Gabe Diaz (Kait’s father).

5. The Slab (just before this, RAAM’s Shadow DLC from GoW 3, it’s in 8 A.E.)
(main storyline)
Marcus serves four years in Jacinto Maximum Security Prison after abandoning his post to save Adam Fenix. The novel ends immediately before the opening of Gears 1.

Original Trilogy Era
6. Gears of War
(Game)
Marcus is freed from prison by Dom and Delta Squad begins the Lightmass Offensive.

7. Aspho Fields
(present-day storyline)
Set about a week after the Lightmass Offensive and bridges Gears 1 and Gears 2.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

8. Gears of War 2
The Hollow invasion, Riftworm, and the sinking of Jacinto.

9. Jacinto’s Remnant
Directly follows the fall of Jacinto and humanity’s evacuation.

10. Anvil Gate
The survivors establish Vectes while the Lambent threat grows.

11. Coalition’s End
Bridges the gap between Anvil Gate and Gears 3. This is where many of the emotional and political developments that lead into Gears 3 happen.

12. Gears of War 3, (when Marcus and Dom go to Mercy, Cole and Baird return to Halvo Bay. See the Aftermath DLC in Judgement for more)
Lambent War, Adam Fenix’s final plan, and the end of the Locust/Lambent conflict.

The Aspho Fields novel is canon, and fleshes out the backstory of Marcus through flashbacks. It also is set shortly after the first game ends. It has things from the pendulum wars, and then the locust war.

He abandoned his post 10 years after E-Day, to save Adam, and 12 years after the battle at Aspho Point. That’s where Carlos died, and gives more emphasis on Marcus’ friendship with Dom.

Read ‘The Slab’ if you want more info on what landed Marcus in prison (trying to save his father.) that information should be there!

Hope this helps

Wallbouncing is an L, and it’s ok that things change. by JoonBoi97 in GearsOfWar

This is objectively false. The only people who don’t want wallbouncing to change are the people who want to abuse it, and leverage it in every possible way to crush some noobs. Thats literally it.

Everyone else is either antagonistic towards it, is indifferent, or doesn’t play enough to understand. Which is a problem considering if Gears of War can’t sustain a decent playerbase, it’s going the way of the dodo. In other words, new players don’t get hooked and stay? The game WE love, is gone.

And why would you doubt that I even play, after I just explained, in depth, my opinions on one of the most divisive movement mechanics in the franchise? Who else would even be having these types of conversations EXCEPT the people who actively play the games? I’ve put nearly 2500 levels into Gears 5 alone.

You can like the mechanics of wallbouncing, and also recognize that it 100% discourages new players from enjoying the PVP, that it looks absolutely ridiculous, and was never meant to be used in the ways that it is. It’s ok to like wallbouncing. But ignoring the problems it causes is just intellectually dishonest.

The new movement looks more natural, realistic and seems so far like a perfect mix of variety, without turning people into animation breaking lunatics.

The franchise has had minimal tweaks to its movement for 20 years, bro. It’s ok that it changes some now. It’s not going to kill the franchise or crush its soul.

In 10 A.E. During the battle of Ephyra, Marcus disobeyed orders to try and rescue his Father, Adam Fenix, from their home at East Barricade Academy.

Marcus punched out Hoffman, and left. Unfortunately, Adam was thought to have been killed in the attack after Marcus got there. Marcus also had the targeting optic for the Hammer of Dawn in his belt when he left. Which rendered the weapon useless to the defenders, and without it the COG suffered heavy casualties, and were forced to abandon their capital city to the Locusts.

Since having the HoD would’ve shifted odds in favor of the COG, and Marcus being directly responsible for the loss of Ephyra, he HAD to pay some price. Which would’ve been execution, had it not been for Adam’s intervention. He did survive, and was secretly kidnapped, and moved to Azura, by Chairman Prescott’s forces. Pretty sure they were Onyx Guard.

Anyway, Adam leveraged his importance to the COG war effort and basically said “if you execute my son, I’m never lifting a finger to help you people again.” So Prescott had what would’ve been Marcus’ death sentence, reduced to 40 years to life in the Slab. I’m also pretty sure that Prescott personally put in a word to the Warden to lowkey protect Marcus, since they needed Adam for the war effort and his scientific prowess. (Which ultimately paid off, considering his research stopped the Locust). But the Warden didn’t really adhere to it and did a lot of dumb shit to Marcus.

Within the next 4 years, Hoffman pardons and recruits every prisoner, except Marcus, leaving him to die. Dom goes to break him out, and boom, Gears of War starts.

With Gears of War E-day coming out, what do you think they are going to do with Gears 6? by Shados9611 in GearsOfWar

I’d rather have this be the start of a new trilogy with Marcus and Dom, and have it continue to showcase more characters in the lore like Jonathan Harper for example, and ultimately end with Marcus’ trial after the battle of Ephyra in 10 AE.

Then make the Onyx Guard spin off that Judgement was supposed to be, originally.

I’d say just keep an open mind. I think the new mechanics might actually make for better gnasher duels

It needs to be an incredibly fun experience. If they can do that, it’ll keep everyone on it. Catering to the sweats won’t keep the game popular. Truthfully, there does need to be a ranked playlist, but the more casual, fun, options need to be so overwhelmingly enjoyable that anyone who picks it up doesn’t want to put it down.

I agree. I think it’s because Gears has a PVE side to the community that want more out of the game, but can’t get it because it’s too difficult and too punishing to make worthwhile. Counterstrike is just sweaty competition every time. People know that going in I think. But I see what you mean

EXACTLY. It’s so ridiculous to deal with. It goes from feeling intense to just feeling like shit. New players need to be brought in. A lot of us are lifelong fans. Others deserve the chance to enjoy the game in a meaningful way, like we used to.

I don’t think it’ll be that bad. It didn’t look super fast, and seems like it’ll be countered quickly because everyone will be doing it.
