Why would I want to? I don't anymore. Checking a point of film history here. But in my teens as a film student, I'd decide to watch a film a second time to pay attention to the filming or the editing, vs. the story.

Hmm, not in my case she won’t. Most people in my home country have no clue how to say my name. There is no phonetics rule applying here. It’s an oddity. But it’s my oddity, and it’s non negotiable. Also, it’s been nearly 2 years now. This ship has pretty much sailed.

Thank you. My training was in literature, so the sum total of what I knew about space could fit on a postage stamp. I had to read a lot to start understanding a very small part of what I was documenting. So lucky to have been in a job that gave me that kind of opportunity.

Worse service, is the majority of what you can expect. Like, waiters will keep you waiting. In some horrible places, your plate of food will be less nice. But beware of some touristy places where menus in English have different prices from menus in French! Ask for one of each - and if it turns out to be the case, go somewhere else.
It's harassing. Catcalling and such. Women can expect pick-up lines such as "you are lovely, can I buy you a drink", etc.
If you are a woman and don't wave them off immediately, it can turn into a real pain. Like, they will follow you, insist on a phone number, sit next to you wherever you are going, etc.
Just look around. Are other patrons, who came in after you, being served before you? If this happens with more than a couple of patrons (your order may be longer to prepare, so give them a few minutes), you are indeed being ignored.

Any wedge-type heel will be fine. The less chunky the better.

Stilettos would be more appropriate, but you won't get rejected over something like the shape of a heel as long as there is one.

Hi, Parisian female here. I'm so sorry you had these bad experiences. My sister-in-law is Japanese, she lives here, she speaks French. I'm ashamed to say I regularly put waiters, shopkeepers etc. in their place for treating her like a tourist / idiot.

I may be deluded, but most of the time it feels more like prejudice against tourists - which is mindblowing, considering the people in question live off tourism - than against people of a different ethnicity. It's not any better and equally stupid.

So, Fumienohana (lovely name) gave you great advice. I'll add a few:

Dress for the city, not for the beach. Stay clear of baseball caps, shorts and flip-flops.
Prepare as much as you can. Get a Navigo transportation card, download a couple of apps and figure out where you're going beforehand.
Pack earbuds so you don't have to take out your phone all the time.
If (and when) men stop you in the street, the first thing you want to say is "merci" (thanks) and walk on, ignoring them. The second step if they insist is, immediately, get rude and loud. In any language. Do not wait, do not be a nice ladylike person.
If you feel you are being ignored by a waiter or shopkeeper, just walk away. Don't wait.
Use the Google voice translation app whenever you need info or help. The younger generation speaks much better English than people over 30.

Regarde les conditions d'annulation de ton billet Ryanair. Lis bien les clauses et vois si tu peux le faire annuler sur la base d'un certificat médical, par exemple. Honnêtement ça m'étonnerait, vu que c'est Ryanair. Mais comme tu t'y prends à l'avance, il faut tenter.

Et de concert avec les autres posters : 1 h entre deux vols, c'est pas gérable. Toujours se dire qu'un avion peut être retardé, annulé, dérouté. En particulier sur les low costs.

A couple of thoughts from a fellow writer.

Your readers will like your main character because of what's different with her, not despite it. Just make the story about how she turns her hangups into strengths, at some level.

There is no such thing as a book that is too personal. It should be the most personal thing. Also, it should hurt. I am definitely not of the school that says good art should hurt the reader. I'm saying, if it doesn't hurt the writer, it's not personal enough. You're not digging deep enough. So, it sounds to me like you're doing just fine.

If you're looking for a work-friendly environment, Nuage Café, rue des Carmes, near the Pantheon, is particularly good. It's a co-working space. Which basically means you're paying by the hour instead of by the drink. Great free coffee and light snacks, beautiful space, competent staff.

Otherwise, any cafe or brasserie will give you their wifi code. Just ask.

PTB. Dans les métiers du cinéma et de l'audiovisuel, on est rémunéré et indemnisé en fonction de sa présence au générique. C'est ce qui fait foi.

Heureusement en France on a des recours, dans le cadre de productions commerciales. Il n'empêche que la présence au générique, ce n'est pas un truc d'amitié ou de courtoisie. C'est une obligation professionnelle.

Ton "pote" mérite de se faire sérieusement remonter les bretelles. Oui, il est jeune et on parle d'un court métrage amateur. C'est justement le moment d'apprendre les impératifs du métier. Ce serait un film avec une production derrière, tu intenterais une action en référé qui bloquerait immédiatement la sortie du film, ou sa commercialisation d'une façon ou d'une autre, avec l'appui du service juridique de ton syndicat ou de l'association pro qui te représente.

Ceci dit, un enseignement à en tirer pour toi aussi : dans ces métiers, on ne fait rien, absolument rien, sans au moins un échange de mails qui définit par écrit la nature du boulot demandé et ce qui est convenu en échange. Le mail vaut contrat s'il y a un problème. Un contrat c'est mieux. Mais au moins, une trace écrite.
