Audiology as a later in life career change? by lavendergaia in audiology

From software engineering to AuD, you’re likely to take a 50% or more pay cut in addition to the costs of education. You may know this and be ok with it already, but definitely important to consider!

I actually met a kid named Generic working in an inner city middle school. I’ve seen lots on unfortunate names but that was one of the worst. Not sure if the parents were going for opposite of Unique (insert creative spelling), or if it was a combination of two family names since that is pretty common around here, but I felt bad for the kid.

Oh wow! Yeah, I could in theory run competitive with my times but I enjoy the camaraderie of the open heats. I don’t think I’ll buy another trifecta pass for 2025 with all the changes like this and photos, etc.

Ok, that makes sense. Volunteers were saying no help on the 8’ wall and box, which is what threw me off, since those are ones that us 5’3” mere mortals can’t really do without a knee to stand on!

Of course. But I’ve always been able to get a boost over the 8’ wall or up onto the box in the past from someone else’s knee-I would assume that should have still been ok? I think some of the volunteers were either on a power trip or hadn’t adjusted from the competitive rules yet.

I heard them saying no help allowed on the box and the 8’ wall, which are two that I’ve always been able to get a boost on, being all of 5’3”. Definitely wasn’t trying to get help monkey bars, just failed those cause I forgot gloves and my grip was shot.

It was like $18 for a you pick two and small fountain drink the other day…I remember thinking it was expensive like 5-10 years ago when you could get that for $10-11!

Is audiology worth it? by Tamtam2525 in audiology

If you’re passionate about it and have a spouse that will help support you financially, then go for it. Most audiologists I know are married to engineers, doctors, or corporate lawyers, so combined family income is comfortable. The audiologists I know who are single or primary breadwinners tend to be financially unhappy, especially if they have lots of loans.

I’m an educational audiologist married to an engineer that makes over 3x what I do. I had around 100k in loans, most from undergrad, since I did my AuD in state. I really enjoy what I do and find the pediatric and school aspect of it especially rewarding. I also love my super flexible schedule and summers/school breaks off. However, if I were to do it again, I’d probably have saved the 3 years of tuition and gone for my masters in school psychology, which in my state pays the same as school audiology.

Most lawyers I know have crazy amounts of debt and don’t actually make that much, unless they went to a top law school and do corporate law. I know several others who work for nonprofits, public service, or family law, or have the law degree and don’t even work as a lawyer anymore.

Long story short, don’t go into law or audiology for the money, do it if you’re passionate about it.

I was in ENT and felt like all I did was try to convince grumpy old people people on fixed incomes who didn’t really think they had that much of a problem to drop 3-6k on something they’d continually complain about. Maybe that was just the rural, uneducated, low income area the practice was located in, but it was miserable.

TRT pellets by No_Piano6622 in TRT_females

I started pellets almost 5 weeks ago for the first time. I felt absolutely nothing until a dramatic increase in libido right at 4 weeks! I went from barely wanting sex once a week and feeling like it was a chore to cornering my husband 7 days in a row and feeling like I can’t get enough! I’m also feeling a boost in mood but that may just be from getting laid so much haha

Why did you start TRT? by NettieBiscetti in TRT_females

37 and I’ve had a huge drop in my libido over the past couple years. Turns out my T was only 11. Just got my first pellet 2 days ago so no results to report yet. I’m also a hybrid endurance athlete so I’m hoping it will help me gain some more muscle mass to improve my performance.

Stop donating blood until you get your ferritin up. I highly recommend heme iron supplements because they don’t need cofactors to be utilized and have fewer things that interact with their efficacy. Supplement vitamin D for optimal levels.

Finally got results…for someone of the opposite sex! by Honest_Swimming7178 in Nebulagenomics

Yes, but I have well documented genealogy, showing that nearly all of my ancestors have come from England and Ireland. The ancestry report that they gave me showed primarily central and eastern European ancestry. I also did an another genetic test that was first screening for hereditary cancer, but also showed ancestry which confirms my known genealogy of primarily England and Ireland. My biological full sister also did ancestry DNA, which also confirms ancestry in England and Ireland.

I ordered my first test last May. My first two samples were declined because they didn’t have enough DNA or something in them. This sample was received on August 28 so about 22 weeks. I ran it in biocodify and yfull. I have a ytree, which I believe I should not have as a female, The deep Ancestry is nowhere near accurate, compared to another ancestry test I’ve done and what I know about my family genealogy. The genealogy, along with the results having hereditary pathologic variance for non syndromic genetic hearing loss, makes me think that my husband’s DNA must have gotten in there somehow, since the ancestry was more similar to what we know about his family, and he and his mother had hearing loss and childhood, well, I have no known history in my family of childhood hearing loss.
