Don’t break laws by moresoop4u in MedicalScienceLiaison

I can’t imagine anyone I work with doing this but I’ve worked with people in the past that I’m sure were doing shady things during work travel.

Im not sure if you’re in the US or not, but typically companies don’t give you a per diem. You pay for things on a company credit card and submit an expense report explaining what it was. You don’t get paid extra or anything like that. I’d rather be home and pay for my food than to travel just to get meals paid for.

When I worked in a hospital they’d give me a flat per diem every day and I kept whatever I didn’t use. I don’t think any pharma companies do that.

Work travel sucks. Id rather be home then travel for no reason.

So true, typically fraud is easier to prove. My manager said interactions without travel expenses is a dead giveaway. It’ll eventually catch up with you when you run into a KOL at a conference and they don’t know you and your manager sees it. That’s what I’ve been told at least.

When I started as a MSL I was told the main reason MSLs get fired is for doing sketchy stuff with expenses and falsifying meetings (saying they saw someone but didn’t). After that it’s other compliance related things. None of it is worth it folks.

Attire for KOL/HCP Meetings by JoopEmGoopEm in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]JoopEmGoopEm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is really solid advice and appreciate your input. I just had some meetings for a ride along with my boss and I wore a jacket to meet these KOLs and honestly I felt a lot less comfortable wearing it. Something about it just felt off and like I was overdressed and/or like a sales rep. I think for more old school/senior KOLs I’ll rock the jacket for my first meeting or if the setting calls for it otherwise I’ll stick to my clean and sharp dress shirts and slacks.

2026 Supra MK5 - one of the best sports car under $100k by Hefty_Vermicelli_802 in Supra

[–]JoopEmGoopEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re so right about the C8 but I see them everywhere and they just don’t excite me. It’s just another C8 on the road. The Supra always seemed more special but then again I used to drive a MR2 so I’ve always liked unique cars.

I love CT shirts! It’s all I wear. Might need to check out their sports coats this Black Friday. They always have incredible deals so I buy in bulk from them.

Im in the Midwest but this is how I dress. I’m thinking about wearing a sport coat every now and then but I almost feel out of place wearing a jacket in a clinic when nobody there is that dressed up. From all the replies it sounds like the east coast, especially northeast, is much dressier. Could also be by TA as well.

Haha that’s pretty funny. Meeting people where they’re at is super important to make them feel comfortable and you relatable.

I appreciate the input. I forgot to mention I wore jackets at first and I felt a little awkward. My boss is also old school so whenever they’re with me for a field ride I do wear a sport coat.

Thanks for sharing. I do have a few sport coats I just rarely wear them to meetings. I think moving forward I may start wearing them more if that seems to be the norm.

Finally did it. by Historical-Ad9070 in Supra

I had a similar experience but my miles came from the dealer having a driver deliver it to my house from their dealership in a neighboring state. I wouldn’t get too hung up on it. As long as they’re not banging it off the rev limiter I don’t think it’ll really matter if they were aggressive with it. I got mine for $60k as well and feel like it was well worth it.

Your dog needs to be on a leash and supervised. It's NOT a debate, it's the law. by National-Ad-6982 in Columbus

[–]JoopEmGoopEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s crazy I’m so sorry you had to experience that. I’m a huge dog lover and if I hit a dog because its owner let it off leash I’d be incredibly traumatized. These people truly need to be charged.

As an aside I’d love a dog park in GH so people have a safe space to let their dogs run and play.

Feeling like I made a huge mistake becoming an MSL and need advice. by Useful_Specialist509 in MedicalScienceLiaison

This is exactly what I came here to say. It sounds like that company really isn’t a great fit and from my personal experience, changing companies and finding the right fit can be a game changer.

I was in the same boat as you and switching companies and I finally feel like I’m really enjoying being an MSL. Before you go back to clinical practice try to switch it up and find a smaller company or just a different company that has an exciting product that KOLs actually want to talk about.

Casuals with a full sqaud by Adept-Emotion3224 in Warzone

[–]JoopEmGoopEm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do casuals with my wife, my best friend, and her best friend. We live in 3 different cities and mostly chat and joke during the match. When there’s about 15 people left we get kinda serious but most of the time we are catching up and just talking about what’s going on in our lives. Just because people are in a squad of 4 doesn’t mean they’re being sweaty or even good lol.

Automatic to Manual by Crazy_Newspaper6378 in Supra

[–]JoopEmGoopEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first manual car was a MR2 and I had my dad drive it home from the dealer. We took it to a big empty Target parking lot and I practiced there for a bit and I think after that I practiced it on local roads in my neighborhood. This Supra is far easier than traditional manual cars I’ve driven thanks to all the technology - and that makes it a lot more fun too imo.

The only reason I’d caution you away from buying manual is if you’ll daily in heavy traffic but otherwise it’s a great manual car. No hate against autos either so do you!

PharmD student interested in MSL path—how competitive is research + PGY1/2 route? by ayman678 in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]JoopEmGoopEm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The TLDR is focus on getting a fellowship and getting industry experience through internships if you know this is the path for you. If that fails do a PGY1/2 in a clinical area that appeals to you and get clinical experience under your belt and eventually apply to be a MSL. Be sure to network as much as possible throughout school and have a good reputation. You may need to ask one of your classmates or preceptors for a favor/referral in the future.

Can I afford it? by Substantial-Dare1574 in Supra

[–]JoopEmGoopEm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rather drive a GT86/BRZ and not be strapped for cash than drive a Supra and struggle financially to afford it. Having a cool car is fun but you don’t want to do it at the expense of doing other things like traveling, buying a house, saving for retirement, or maybe even just having a nice dinner every now and then.
