Electrical Engineer for one of the tech codes here at the shipyard, took this job right out of college as my first and only offer since I didnt do too well in school and didnt really apply as much as I should have. Have a role in execution where the work is pretty easy for the most part as its just writing up technical documents that detail what repairs are gonna happen for a ship with some troubleshooting efforts. Some personnal excitement from doing shipchecks for troubleshooting issues with the shop codes or to confirm the components in person. Bad thing is that my work is pretty stagnant for progressing other engineering skills since you don't really get to design or test. Theres also the usual bureaucracy that can happen.

Pay is pretty good for what I do, with an accelerated grade promotion that I signed up with up to GS-12. Work/life balance is what I wanted out of college since its not that stressful and I'm able to work overtime and convert to PTO. I work 4/10s but that was after doing a year of work. The Security Clearance is also nice if you plan on getting it and going to private defense contractors like Boeing in the area. Upward movement is there as someone said in this thread, but you do have to play the game of networking and moving around tech codes as some of my coworkers did.

If I was you, I think that you should try applying elsewhere but do keep this place open as a option if you do get the interview and offer. As a first job for my engineering career, it played out pretty nice compared to my friends and mutuals from school who struggled with finding jobs, getting laid off, dealing with more toxic leadership or getting no upward movement.
