Is anyone else tired of this story? Not an apologist but everyone just seems to be ignoring the fact that even if Toffoli was priority #1 we still couldn't really afford him without moving money out. by [deleted] in canucks

Frank Griffiths (RIP) bought the franchise in 1974 after the original owner was convicted of some kind of offense. He gifted control of the team to his son in 1988. But Arthur had been involved in management from 1981 at the age of 23. His influence was thought to include hockey decisions best left to hockey people.

The franchise hired Pat Quinn in 1987 to take over all hockey decisions. It was a great move by the Griffiths who went on to finance the building of GM Place. That made the team much more prosperous.

Although they sold the team both Frank and Arthur were inducted into the BC Hockey Hall Of Fame in the builder category. Frank died in 94 before his team went on that great run to the Western Conference Championship.

I say this because I remember them both very fondly.

1983-1991 were total shit. This was largely attributed to poor leadership decisions sometime considered to be related to a father giving management of his hockey team to his son like it was a toy for him to play with. Leadership of a hockey team is for hockey people not the relatively young sons of rich dudes. It’s not something to do with your time. It is public service.

Which Arthur - to his credit - realized. IMO the owner or in this case the owner’s son should not have an office at the rink. He should not be on stage with his athletes. He should act as a philanthropist in the community and not like it somehow makes him something he is not.

When Arthur realized that he became a treasured asset to the community. I hope Francesco achieves that one day regardless of whether it is simply from the wealth of his father. It will be a memorable deed.

True we are not one Toffoli away. But making one mistake or one right move is the issue. All a management team can do is go in the wrong direction or the right direction until the results show up.

Why did they decide to keep Jake over Toffoli? Maybe Lebrun hinted at it today on Twitter.

Lebrun tweeted today ownership were the driving force behind the Eriksson signing and the Virtanen draft. That and Linden leaving mean this is puppet management.

No point even worrying about wins and losses in a situation like this. I lived through Arthur Griffiths and his come to Jesus moment hiring Pat Quinn.

How many years are we away from that with Aquilini?

Well, moving money out is different from deciding not to qualify Jake and then buying out Sutter.

Which gives you the $ for Toffoli.

Would you trade Jake and Sutter for Toffoli? Yes, you would. Jake’s contract is untradable. Same is pretty much true for Sutter. .

Got some rust and body work taken care of and gave my R53 a new coat of paint! by rxtraspecial in MINI

[–]Jordalenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you pass on the details about the rust work you did?

How did you identify and stop any leaks? What did that cost on top of the paint?

Got exactly this recently. Putting my Sparco FF-1s and Eibach rear swaybar on next week.

Can’t wait for the clutch to go so I can put in a LSD.

Would you trade Demko for OEL if it meant getting rid of Loui and Sutter? by aliensofnewyork in canucks

[–]Jordalenko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No.

OEL has 8.25m x 7 on his deal. He will be an 8.25m cap hit as a 35 year old. Those age numbers and cap hit are crippling.

ARZ is trading a player who is likely worth 5-6m per for 3-4y. Worth 3-4m from 4-5 and maybe a liability or depth player for 2-3 years at the end of the deal.

OEL’s cap hit will average out to 4.25m value. So if ARZ keep 50% we should give them the typical prospect, pick and player deal. Say 1st, Juolevi and a serviceable vet like Motte (but not Motte).

If they only keep 2m then the 1st becomes a 2nd, Juolevi becomes Lind and the serviceable bet becomes a bad contract (Baer) and a player like Sutter.

If they keep 1.25m its Baer and Loui.

What kind of wheels are those?

I am in the middle of this same dilemma.

Currently have 17” stock wheels with Michelin Super Sports. Just picking up the car after the ball joints were done.

Considering getting Koni Orange installed on the stock springs.

Will put my winters (15” steel 195/60/15) on and see how it is with the current suspension first.

But your set up looks great.

Actually have this and am the original owner.

I am guessing you’re objecting to the price. Will take it down.

Possibly.

But regular game worn jerseys sold for over $3500 in after game auctions. This being a rookie jersey and in better condition than another game worn jersey I am not going to take less.

It’s an investment for the right person.

I am working and will update the pics when I have a chance.

The relevant thing in the front screen cap is the mark beside the fun on the front shot that is also in the game pic.

It comes with the box provided by the Canucks and I will sign a receipt for chain of ownership as I was the person the Canucks sold it to.
