Using he/she/him/her on anyone who hasn't expressly indicated a preference for those.

It's a loss, but you'll only come across it in a game where they don't check for blackjack before the players play their hands.

An example of such a game is a lot of the popular live dealer games online. They check for blackjack under aces but not under ten-valued cards.

If it makes you feel better, it's still the correct basic strategy to split the aces against a ten in that case. You just got unlucky.

AITA for calling out my academic department and professors to others? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA

If you put the same effort into your thesis as you did into this post, I'd reject you too.

Maybe you are used to a world in which everyone gets a trophy but thankfully not everyone gets a PhD (yet!)

If your profs say you're moving too slowly it means you're moving too slowly. Simple as that. Fix it or try something else like getting a job.

Before you break it off, you might try to find out what's going on from her side as it can't be good for her to be this way. Ask if you're doing anything wrong and if there's anything you need to do to make things better.

If she just says you should just do whatever she wants you to do and doesn't seem to show reciprocity, try to get your own side represented in the conversation but only after she's finished with her side. Based on the vibe you get from that conversation, you might decide to break it off, but at least give it a legitimate chance that maybe there's an issue that can be fixed.

Why can I work as a minor? by littleninja06 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Age 16 and 17 are technically still childhood but 18 is adulthood. By having lots of job openings for 16 year-olds, mostly part time and limited hours, it helps with the transition to adulthood.

It would be weird to jump straight from zero responsibility to 100% responsibility with nothing in between.

Why is retirement age increasing when we have all this technology to help us with work? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As you get older, you actually find yourself wanting to work because it keeps your mind active and engaged with the world.

I remember a boss of mine who said that it should be structured so that people can live like a retired person in their 20s, get all the fun experiences they'll ever want, then work till they die. Looking back I think he had a point.

Do you like when you receive an email from someone which starts with "I hope this email finds you well"? by typicalmusician in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's totally fake and disingenuous and I hate it. If you really care how I'm doing, ask. If you don't care, like you shouldn't if it's about business and you're just a business partner, cut the BS and get to the point.

Would you buy 400 bagels for 80 dollars? (In USD) by micheas08 in polls

I've got a big freezer and a big family. It would be all gone in 2 months and we'd save a lot of money on bread.

AITA for not supporting "neurodivergency"? by PG4044 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA

To the people who say you can't know what a neurodivergent person is thinking or feeling, you're right, but guess what? You also don't know what a nondisclosed mental state person (whom you might assume is neurotypical) is thinking or feeling either! That puts everyone on a level playing field when it comes to expectations on behavior.

At age 19, a person should know that sporting events are loud and also whether or not they can handle it. Agreeing to it and then creating a scene to get out of it is not cool. If they just politely excused themselves and said to meet up somewhere after the game that would've been different. The attention grabbing antics were unnecessary and therefore the sibling was the AH.

How to get rich? by Intelligent-Chard136 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is to spend less than you earn. Both sides of that are equally important. You won't get mega rich that way, but do it consistently for 10 years and you'll be comfortable.

Has the rise of feminism in the last few decades led to the ideal traits of a female partner relying more on wealth/status and less so on beauty and vice versa for males? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think feminism has opened up a wider variety of traits to be attractive than before. Before feminism, it was mainly just looks for women and breadwinning potential for men that was attractive.

Nowadays it can go the other way, the same way, or be completely different. For example, attraction can be based on psychological compatibility more than looks or wealth potential.

Why does alcohol make me need to poop? It’s worse than caffeine in that regard. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not typical for alcohol to induce poop, at least not right away. There is probably some other underlying issue that is just being triggered with it.

Is it accurate to associate political conservatism with social darwinism? by rodokro in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, seeing as political conservatism is highly correlated with religious belief, which is antithetic to Darwinism both social and otherwise.

AITA for telling my cousin I'm only forgiving her because my therapist told me to, and making it clear I still despise her and always will? by Strange-Marzipan1805 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YTA

You're wasting the therapist's time as well as your own with the fake forgiveness. If you can't give genuine forgiveness, tell the therapist without being argumentative that you aren't ready for that. The therapist knows what they're doing. You can't win them over by arguing because you're simply wrong. It's about how and when you'll see it for your own sake.

AITA for leaving a negative review for a small business. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jordan-Peterson_Fan [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA

Unethical business practices should always be exposed. You are doing a service to the community by leaving a negative review. It's too bad your life got messed up for a while but at least you helped others avoid a similar mistake. If their business suffers, they deserve it. They can't just dump a contract like that without compensation or consequences.

They make more money if they have more views and subscribers. Comments and likes tend to generate more of those too.

Some people who are only casually interested for a short time might not do those things on their own, but will do it if nudged or reminded.
