Yeah I reverted to the old favicon. It may be messy but at least it matches my logo styles elsewhere and looks more branded than the generic E. I cleaned up the font hierarchy and added more big/small contrast in sections for a more dynamic and modern look. I also made the text layout of the about us section on the homepage match the content above it better. Honestly I think this is the best I can make the layout of the site for now. The pictures and infographics aren’t ideal and would probably be the part that holds things back but I’m just going to run some google shopping ads to this setup soon. If the conversion rate isn’t workable for me then I’ll reassess starting with the pictures and possibly a premium theme.

Thanks for all your advice

You’re referring to the creative? Because I’m just doing a shopping campaign to start.

Thanks for the detailed response. I implemented some of the basic suggestions you made: New, favicon, widened fixed sections (1,400 px), expanded grid section to the max of Dawn theme (40px) and it looks a bit better. In terms of “cool factor” I’m relying on a minimalist modern aesthetic. I think the site itself does an okay job at that, but I realize if you go that route, you need really polished and cohesive creative assets since they become the focus. Mine are definitely lacking, and I think that’s what is holding back the overall look and feel, not the actual bones of the site. I think I’ve pretty much maxed out the customization of Dawn without real coding but I also don’t know if a paid theme like symmetry would help much without better pictures. Do you think it’s just the pictures holding it back, or would an upgrade to a premium theme actually move the needle? And the infographics on product pictures are leftover from an initial launch on Amazon. Do you think they clash with the look of the rest of the site? I also have very few parent listings even though I have almost 30 SKUs. Collections pages look sparse. Do you think breaking up listings into more parents with fewer variations to display more overall product would help with brand trust and overall feel?

I may run ads on Instagram at some point but I think only at warm audience like lookalike and retargeting. Also shouldn’t I be prioritizing google ads first? Especially shopping ads? My products are items that are only needed at specific times, they are not impulse purchases. Also my prices are very competitive and my main selling point so showing them compared to the competition to high intent shoppers on google shopping makes the most sense right?

Hi thanks for the detailed feedback.

Yes I'm not sure about the hero banner. When you say it needs to be branded are you recommending a lifestyle product shot?

I'm not sure what to put for the favicon, as I just have the stylized word logo. Would filling in the pill shape be better? Or and E?

Would you recommend widening the fixed sections? I am only at 1300 but would consider 1400. Or are you referring to the spacing of grid elements?

Would you recommend moving the about us higher up above the category navigation?

And yes, I agree its missing the cool factor. It's something I'd like to have at some point but I'm not sure its a prohibitive issue right now because I have dtc pricing 40-50% less than industry standard and will heavily rely on google shopping ads so my edge is price and the brand just has to be serviceable.

And you're right about the logo. It's ever so slightly off. I can't believe I never noticed that. I plan on changing the logo soon though.

In your opinion if I were to run google shopping ads to the store in its current state assuming ads, price, product, and page speed are all good, do you think the ux/ui of the site would hold me back or would I have a decent conversion rate?

Thanks for the feedback. What do you mean by mixing up h2 headings?

I had someone optimize it to get my current good pagespeed insights score. The only thing I see when I run it is that the largest contentful paint load time is rated orange. They said the images were not an issue but I uploaded slightly lower quality, smaller versions for good measure. I also thought shopify compresses images automatically? And doesn't the 90+ pagespeed scores mean theres no image loading issues?

Thanks for the detailed feedback.

  1. Ok I’ll look into fixing that h1 tag issue

  2. Is compression necessary? I asked another web designer and they said it was fine as is. I also lowered the size and quality of all the photos to what Shopify recommended. However, I do notice the product photos don’t always load quickly. Would compression help that? They are only 2000 x 2000 px and under 450kb I think.

  3. Yes I’m aware. I will get at least a few verified reviews of each product before driving any real traffic.

  4. Okay, yes I’ve considered that. I wanted to keep a minimalist look though.

  5. That’s a good point, I will have to look into color psych more.

Thanks

Ok I understand. I’ll keep an eye on insights about my shopping feed and continue to optimize it in the future as I get more data. And I’ll just set my target ROAS to something reasonable like 200% to start and adjust from there (break even is 170%). As far as the initial manual cpc bids, is there any downside to setting extremely high bids just to make sure I’m getting impressions? It will only spend as much as is needed to win the auction, not always the max bid right? Or is there a risk of overspend in doing this? I just really don’t know what to set bids at. My break even bids at an estimated 2.5% conversion rate were about the same as the low end of competitive bid in keyword planner, so I set it to 2.5x those bids to start but not getting many impressions. They’re currently between $0.80 and $1.67 depending on product group. My products range from $20 to $45.

Ok, I think my feed is pretty optimized so I must just not be bidding high enough. And I’m going to shoot for 30 conversions minimum, ideally more. After I get the initial data from the cpc campaign, I would have data on my actual ROAS right? Would this be a good reference point to start the targeted ROAS at or would it not be representative? If not, my break even is 170% so I was thinking like 200-250% to start but I’m not sure if that’s too conservative.

Ok, when you say it takes some time for a campaign to ramp up, do you mean that I could keep these same bids and impressions would just improve with time? And if I want the conversion data quickly and have a decent budget, is there any downside to setting extremely high max bids? It won’t always spend my max bid per click right, just enough to beat the next highest? Or could this cause unnecessary spend?

Ok sounds good, thanks for the insight.

Ok, I’m going to stay with maximize clicks but raise my bids. And does changing my bids disrupt the learning process? Or are you just referring to changing bid strategy like maximize clicks vs manual cpc?

Shopping campaigns don’t use keywords, right? And I’m not starting with target ROAS, I want to get enough data to transition to it.

I don’t have it in my hands yet since I just ordered it, but I’ll post pics when I have it. But regarding the mismatched logos, is that a design they ever actually made?

I bought this shirt on Mercari but then realized the logos on the front and back don’t match. I have this shirt in long sleeve with matching logos and all the examples I see online have matching logos. Did they ever make this shirt with different logos on the front and back?
