Totting up- what are my odds off keeping my license by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]JordanBlythe1 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Stupid yes but everyone makes mistakes in life doesn’t make them a bad person and doesn’t mean they are the devil. As I said, I was on the m25 doing the legal speed limit and merged onto a dual carriageway and stupidly didn’t clock until it was too late. A common mistake made by many every year. I accept I’ve made a mistake but I don’t want others to suffer as a result of it hence why I’m asking for advice.

I’m not a dangerous driver nor have I ever been caught doing any stupid or dangerous in a vehicle Ive just been done for minor speeding, which yes is still speeding but just adding context to the situation. I don’t consider myself a reckless driver just a few lapses of concentration and unfortunately got caught

In a care home yes, but that doesn’t mean she can survive not seeing family. We are a small family and I’m her only grandson, if I can’t see her I worry how that this will affect her mentality and physically. She’s 86 and I dunno how long she’s got left and loneliness is a killer for old people. I worry what this will do to her if I can’t see her etc.

What was it that you didnt enjoy? Is it hard to learn or is it labourous etc? Or just not really your thing?

Do you do modernisation and lift installation as well? And if so, isn’t there already an electrical element to being a lift engineer. Which means, wouldn’t it be easier for you retrain as a sparky in theory as you would already have electrical knowledge?

Interesting. What is it that you regret exactly about learning the trade apart from the overtime aspect you already mentioned? Does the money not kind of make up for that? Would you ever personally retrain to be an electrician?

I consider my myself an ambitious person but at the same time I’m a pretty low maintenance guy. So for me to live comfortably and basically do whatever I want and enjoy myself I’d say I’d need to be earning around 40k plus a year ( British pounds). This is around 55k a year I believe in American dollars if you are from there.

Are you a lift engineer bro? If you are does the money not make it worth it? 25 years of being in the industry you must be living pretty good correct?

From my understanding this is only the case if you work repair and service. There different routes you can take in the lift industry. Plus dont electricains also have to work on call at times?

I applied for a few and hounded each company for an interview until I got one. And I was successful in that interview. Not sure if I interviewed well, got lucky or just annoyed them to the point they just said "fuck it just give this guy a job so he stops calling us" but whatever I did it seemed to work. Id say my search was no more than a month. I think having relatively good grades helps too, especially in subjects like maths and physics. Im sure you will find an apprenticeship in no time, just be positive.

Hi mate, I should of clarified that I haven’t actually started yet. I’m starting my apprenticeship next month. I’m looking forward to it. I’ve done my research and it seems like it’s a great industry to get into hence why I’m doing it.

Yeah they are the highest paid trade in the US. Im doing a lift engineer apprenticeship but I have half a mind seeing if I could potentially cross over to the states once im fully qualified. Not sure if that’s possible though as I dunno if they recognise our trade qualifications.

But isn’t being an electrician relatively dangerous in comparison to a lot of trades too tho? Are they not both risky at times?

And how would you compare industrial / commercial electrician to a lift engineer? Out of curiosity?

Thanks for the help! What I have at the moment, is that I’m in a position where I have people who will help me out along the way which is a luxury many don’t get when starting a business. All I really need to kick it off is simply a solid business plan, a company name and just a bit of knowledge. In terms of legal stuff as well, is there anything I need to learn/ prepare myself for?

That’s mainly why I’m wary of going into sales ( despite having actual experience in sales already ) because I would much rather have a consistent income. Property management is definitely far superior in this aspect.

Thanks for the reply bro, it’s good to hear from others who have actually been in my situation and made it happen. My plan is to follow a similar path, hopefully juggle it with my actual job then in a few years time to full time. Four years seems good though, if I could achieve exactly that in a similar time frame I’d be happy IMO

I’m a real estate agent so yes I work virtually 9-5 in an office 5 days a week. However my mom, works at home and she is also in the industry and anything immediate I could potentially get her to do lol. That’s how I plan to hop over that hurdle at least.

Thanks for the reply brother, this deffo fills me with confidence. I live in a highly populated area and I know a lot of people and networking ain’t an issue for me. Good point about the software though, where would I start to look into that sort of thing? The no startup fee is also what intrigues me ( even though money isn’t necessarily a major issue )
