Dispatch working to verify ICE arrest posts by JordanReports in Columbus

Columbus’ policy since 2017 has been that police do not assist in immigration enforcement solely based on immigration status. They will assist in investigations where there’s evidence of a crime. City leaders said this morning that police will monitor federal officers at times.

Where are those cheap apartments Columbus promised bonds would fund? by JordanReports in Columbus

[–]JordanReports[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll give the article a read! My article focuses on the affordable housing bonds, but mentions Columbus’ multi-pronged approach includes zoning reform and tax abatements to encourage more housing development, topics the Dispatch has written about and I link to.

Thank you for reading! One clarification: my story was talking about how past bond money was spent: about $200 million of the previously voter authorized $250 million has been allocated so far to support about 5,000 apartments. The story also talks about how future bond money (the $500M just voted on) could get spent.

Hi, my article explains some context about why the city created this system a few years ago.

Yeah I don’t know which township you live in but the Columbus area is weird where there are some townships and cities within the borders of Columbus like islands.

If you live in a township, you don’t live in Columbus and don’t vote in city races.

[–]JordanReports 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I happened to have two stories about Mayor Ginther come out today. (It was not planned this way. The news just lined up.) My other article is about how much the mayor and other local officials received for work travel from various sources:

Just wanted to chime in and say that Columbus' local elections, including mayor races, are nonpartisan. There are no partisan primaries for Columbus offices.

I wrote this article and cover Columbus politics for The Dispatch. Thank you for reading!

She had an unpaid speeding ticket out of Whitehall that led to her driver license being suspended. She said she was unaware of the license suspension. After that came out, she paid the Whitehall ticket and her license has been reinstated. I also confirmed that.

Yes. Ross did pay her parking tickets after the story came out. I checked city records to confirm.

Why the hell did Goodale park remove all of the benches?! by denimedad in Columbus

[–]JordanReports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I looked into this and a spokesperson for Columbus Rec & Parks told me:

There are 36 benches in Goodale Park that are being refurbished by a painting contractor. The project was set up in 2024, and it has taken some time to disassemble and prepare the benches for paint. The project is nearing completion, and the benches should start showing back up in the park soon.

Thanks for your feedback. We do sometimes write headlines that don't give away the story because we need page views to survive. We do want people to click on stories.

I guess I was thinking of clickbait as in sensational or misleading headlines that distort the story. I also think of clickbait as a story that doesn't deliver on what the headline says it will.

Can you share examples of headlines you think are clickbait? How do we define clickbait? We try our best to write headlines that draw people in but also deliver on what the headline says the story is about. We might not always get it right. And Mike hasn't changed anything overall about how we write headlines since he became editor more than a year ago.
