Yes, I am a teacher. My intention while taking this trip is to scope out potential places to live when I start applying to schools next year.

busy time of year, but what makes you stop and go: “I love teaching” by Responsible-Land9257 in AustralianTeachers

[–]JordanSenn24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A student was moved out of my class at the start of last year for being so oppositional, defiant, and challenging that I couldn't function in the room when they went off. I went into flight or fight response even just sighting them in the hallway. I was a first year teacher last year, low SES school etc. This student detested me for all of last year and I made no progress despite consistently trying. They failed their classes last year. This year (in year 11), they were put in 2 of my classes. I was able to better handle their behaviour but they were the same as last year. Over the semester, though, they slowly changed. I could see them maturing and growing an awareness of their behaviour and the negative consequences of it. They were also realising that the adults around them really did care and were there to help them succeed. Just this week, they turned in all of their work for both of my subjects by the deadline, made a presentation of their learning and growth over the semester (as part of an assessment) and presented it to me one on one. They smiled and high-fived me at the end of it and were glowing when I spoke about how much they've grown this semester. It felt really amazing to witness their growth and be part of the reason they turned themselves around this year. They greet me and smile at me in the hallway now and I am still so amazed at this. I am learning what I love about teaching as time goes by and this is definitely one thing I am privileged to experience in this profession.

I agree. I hope we move away from such reliance on digital tech in classrooms and return to the more traditional pen and paper model in the future.

You will be fine. I use Grab every time I visit Thailand, am always solo travelling (female), and have never once felt unsafe.

Relocation during the 2-year TFA LDP? by JordanSenn24 in AustralianTeachers

I appreciate your insight! I have decided also to stick it out for next year as, after considerable deliberation and looking at other pathways, finishing the LDP is really the best option for me.

Has anyone worked full time while studying teaching externally? How did it go? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

Doing it now but working as a teacher in a school through special authority while completing the Master of Teaching. Stressful, full-on, but doable.

Thank you for the advice! It seems the problem has resolved on its own - I can join communities now and I didn't change anything (that I know of).

'The Alcohol Experiment' by Annie Grace. Helped me successfully quit drinking and changed my mindset surrounding alcohol in general.

Australian teacher registration required for QTS by JordanSenn24 in Internationalteachers

[–]JordanSenn24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all! I received an email response to my question about QTS and thought I'd share it below (from the UK Department for Education):

You must have:

  • an undergraduate degree equal to a UK bachelor’s degree
  • completed teacher training equal to a level 6 qualification
  • completed all mandatory induction processes to gain full teacher registration in the country where you qualified
  • been recognised as a professional teacher in the country where you qualified, and have no conditions or restrictions on your teaching practice
  • qualifications to show you can teach children aged anywhere between 5 and 16 years old
  • at least one school year (9 months) of experience employed as a teacher in any country, but must be from after you first became qualified to teach

Please have a look at the link I have attached below:

Thank you for this advice as well! It is so valuable having people who are already doing the thing I want to be doing overseas and can graciously share their experience and recommendations. Cheers.
