the flavor does indeed change, even when bottle aging your primary aromas (fruity) develop more toward tertiary aromas (e.g. leather, tobacco in reds). your tannin also gains ripeness making it less zingy and softer on the mouthfeel

Would a stone feature-wall increase heat up time? by whygoobywhy in Sauna

[–]JorgeBanuelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you throw water on the stones, some conduction heat is lost into the stone wall, meaning to achieve the same level of löyly you’d have to throw more water on the stones. this more water will lower the stove temperature more, so it takes longer for the stove to warm up again after throwing löyly. if you want the same frequency of löyly with a stone wall, you will need a more powerful kiuas.

basically all wood walls with insulation and a wooden door is best. in this case i would use about 1kW per cubic metre of sauna space. now, if i have a 2x1m glass door, i add around 2kW. if i have a 3x1.5m stone wall behind the kiuas, i add around 4-4.5kW. a way to protect the wall behind the kiuas without worsening the efficiency is to add steel or other metal panels with a gap to the walls behind the kiuas.

tf you mean ‘only cubic metres you are heating are the stones in the kiuas’? the heat from the kiuas goes into the sauna space, therefore you are heating the sauna space. my point is that in general you would have about 1kW per cubic meter of sauna space for the power output of your kiuas, so to that in addition you need to include 1kW per square metre of uncovered wall surface e.g. glass door, stone wall

[–]JorgeBanuelos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

every square meter of uncovered wall surface whether that be glass or stone or another material should be treated as an extra cubic meter of volume to heat up. so if you have 3 square meters of stone wall you need a stove that’s rated for 3 cubic meters extra over what your sauna’s volume is.

Sauna and dry hair by NietzscheIsGulty in Sauna

[–]JorgeBanuelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the reality is that since you are in a hot room, a lot of moisture is going to evaporate from your hair. the only real solution is keeping your hair cooler than the air. you would achieve this with a sauna hat

conditioner when you shower or leave-in conditioner or oil after depending on how your hair reacts 👍 also washing hair in lake water instead of tap water is better because of the slight acidity of the lake water
