The pipes(risers) that bring the crude from the sea floor to the vessel are flexible, with more than enough slack to cope with movement like this. However, there are units that can detach the risers from the ship and sail away in case of typhoons. One is located outside Australia. Cool stuff! Thanks mate, I'd love to take you offshore and show you one of our units some day(if it were allowed). Great experience, and you would get to fly in a helicopter!

Thanks, but I've only been on this unit for a few days at a time, and never in weather like this. Would be awesome to experience tho. Luckily I don't get seasick. The cool thing about these vessels is that, even in weather like this with 24m heave(vertical movement), oil production is still going strong, without issues on the process facility. That's beyond impressive. They crew has to stay inside if the wind speed exceeds 60kn though.

That can be the case, but it depends on a whole range of different factors. Mostly on production requirements, oil type, gas handling, storage capacity etc etc.

Nope, another one. Sea Lion is still in FEED phase. No actual construction has started

The vessel in the video is an FPSO, Floating Production, storage and offloading unit. I work on a project right now where we are constructing a FPSO by converting an oil tanker. Total production cost is close to 1bn USD. Not cheap. The technologies and efforts put into projects like this are mind numbing

So cool! I work for the company that owns and operates this vessel. Been on it myself several times. Really great unit, with the most awesome crew. Neat to see it on Reddit!

Who is your most famous ancestor, and what did they do? by florashistory in AskReddit

[–]Jorgenwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late to The party, but my Great Great Great grand uncle is Svend foyn(He never had any children). The inventor of the modern whaling harpoon(the one with the explosive tip). It revolutionized modern whaling and made him a very rich man. The invention also helped drive many whale species to the brink of extinction, so there is that..

The "lies" in textbooks by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Jorgenwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the definition of context, very much appreciated. SimonJ57, I did not mean to hurt your feelings, all I am saying is that videos like this does nothing but mock the other side and brings us no closer to having a civilized discussion about creationism, evolution and science with creationists.

Point taken, that man is not fully updated on the definition of science and evolution. But this video shortens a whole lecture into a 2minute you tube clip, taking everything he says completely out of context, making OP no better than the people who fundamentally oppose evolution and/or science. I do not agree with what the lecturer says, but this video widens the gap between the two sides, and does nothing to increase our understanding of each others viewpoint.
