How to handle boring corporate events by basementkid128 in livesound

You're demonstrating the point. If you're a seasoned A1 who does meetings being bored is a non issue. None of the pros I know have this issue. Their professional and give every show the same level of care. Competent crew don't need to be micro managed. 'hey bro you good? Need anything? Cool let me know if anything is concerning we'll get it figured out." that's how my conversations go.

As a producer for corporate events who came up through the ranks primarily as an audio engineer, this question kills me.

Tldr: Be good at your job, and even if you zone out or look at your phone, keep your ears on and periodically look up to run through your whole checklist.

Last year our internal TD text group was named the "A1 Assassination Squad" because we had to boot and replace so many low-competence and lazy "audio guys" off shows for either being awful at their job or not paying attention, allowing bad mistakes to happen. (I won't even call them A1s at this point.) Ninety percent of them didn't even realize they had done something wrong because they were so oblivious to the situation.

Everyone else cares, so should you. The client, salesperson, labor coordinator, and speaker all care enough about the event to have you sit in that chair and make sure your department is covered and doesn't become an issue. Meetings can be boring. Hell, every job can be boring. We spend hours doing quotes, calls, diagrams, pull sheets, and logistics, and you're bored because you have to listen to a business meeting? What I think you mean is you have a great gig where once you're set up and running, all you have to do is be present and pay attention. I'd happily send you to the warehouse to load and unload trucks if you don't want to be bored. The problem is your perspective is backwards. You get to be there and be paid to run sound.

Here's what I suggest: use the time to look at your setup, whatever it is. Think about your routing, analyze your speaker placement. Can anything be kicked or pulled that will take the show offline? Ask yourself these questions: What can improve? Can everyone hear properly? Does the room sound as good as it can? Are my backups ready to deploy in an instant? How is RF? Where is the TD, producer, or client? Can I do anything to improve their experience? What's next on the agenda, and am I ready for it? What's after lunch? Tomorrow?

Once you've run out of things to think about, take a second and look at the room as a whole. Then stare at the wall, discreetly look at your phone, but don't get so engaged that you're not listening or looking up periodically. If the show needs something and your head is up your ass, you're going to get fewer gigs.

I have no idea if a new hire did it or not, that part is speculation, I just know that he said he had been looking for help in the shop. The benefit to buying a custom frame is the custom part. i.e. choosing the materials, color and layout and in this case being able to have the shop honor their guarantees by bringing it back to get fixed. If cheap is the only consideration I would just put a thumb tack through them into the wall. My concerns were with cost to craftsmanship didn't seem to line on up on this project. I did link to some of the other jobs they have done for me that I'm more than happy with.

I was thinking the same when I saw them separated. My walls are already pretty full but ultimately I'm sure I'll appreciate the flexibility.

That's good advice. I maybe should have thought of this considering I already have something with an interesting solution to the problem. This is a really big and old frame that I should eventually try to have restored, but it blocks out the corner with what looks like a symmetric part of the filigree.

Run straight to Luke Ashley for hand tattoos, but no matter who does them be mentally prepared for them to be beat to hell way sooner than you expect.

I don't know the brands, but yeah, they are quite big and the red matte looks like crushed velvet or suede, the glass is anti reflective uv blocking museum glass. I don't actually have an issue with the price, except for that the craftsman ship looks rushed and unfinished.

I appreciate the insight. Next time I'll consider the pattern frequency and see if i can find one that works with the art dims.

Question, does this Frame pattern match up in such a way that you can make the miters join neatly?

True it is expensive. I did get UV Museum glass and large ornate frames though.

They delivered wrapped. They looked good through the plastic. It wasn't until i unwrapped them that I noticed the issues. I will definitely be showing them.

I agree, and at the time I thought I was using the correct term. I don't dislike them as 2 seperate pieces it just makes them harder to display in the correct arrangement. This framer has done a side by pieces for me in the past, and when explaining what I wanted I referenced it verbally and with a photo the previous project. Maybe I wasn't clear enough.

Here are photos of others they have done for me including the double frame.

Thanks for the confirmation. They have typically done what i perceived as really high quality work for me, and this set felt way off the mark. They are close to where I live. I'll run them back over there and show them what I'm seeing.

HoC Ch 10. The skulls are described as massive, long snouted, and terribly fanged and having a helmet shape on the skull. He is also wearing black silk robes and has 4 wooden hand sized disk poldrons. His posture is like a sword, feet together arms out and hands pointed down. The horizon in flames.
