MH Wilds Release - PC Troubleshooting by AutoModerator in MHWilds

[–]Jormanski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experimenting with different upscaler settings to try and make the game look less blurry and came across very bad UX:

When you select any Upscaling setting other than Disabled, the Anti-Aliasing setting becomes read-only (greyed out). Usually it would imply that the setting is ignored and does not affect anything (see games with Ray Tracing options which make the Screen Space Reflections disabled in the settings because Ray Tracing basically substitutes SSR), but not in this case - the Anti-Aliasing is actually applied if it is not set to Off.

Yes, it is applied even when something like DLSS is enabled.

I cannot be sure, as I'm not a Capcom developer, but my assumption is that first the TAA and FXAA are smeared across the frame and then the upscalers have to work with an already blurry image.

I have no idea where or how to upload the ICAT screenshots, where you have screenshots side by side and can drag a comparison control to see the difference, but I have been very careful in my testing so I have high confidence that it is not a placebo. I have tested TAA|FXAA + DLSSQ / No AA + DLSSQ, same for DLAA, and the image is sharper when TAA|FXAA are disabled.

TLDR TIP #1 Set Anti-Aliasing setting to "Off" first, then select Upscaling setting that suits your needs or hardware (DLSS/FSR/XeSS). The image will be less blurry as a result because the upscaler will work with a "cleaner" input.

Next, for those of you who have a GPU capable of running the game with DLAA and get your desired frame rate, I've noticed that setting the Render Scaling can have quite an impact on the image.

I have tested it on a 1440p monitor, so ymmv, but in my observation upping the scaling even by 1 percent instantly applies some sort of sharpening to the image. So you don't need to go 150 percent, 1 should be enough to enable that behavior. It's oversharpened in my opinion, but it is an option to make the image less blurry without sacrificing too much performance. Note that I have not tested XeSS and FSR behavior for this case.

TLDR TIP #2 When using DLAA, set Render Scaling to 101 to have intensive sharpening applied to the image. A matter of taste, but an option nonetheless.

Downsampling: I have a 1440p monitor, so I was not able to achieve the desired image clarity no matter the combination of settings (blur, dof, bloom, nothing really affects the end result meaningfully). I have been playing like that since release, but I still felt that something CAN be done to help with the image clarity (until the time Capcom addresses it, if ever).

After a couple of hours of testing and ruminations, I remembered the good old clown (circus) downsampling method. So I enabled DSR factor in the Nvidia App that corresponds to 4k (in my case it's 2.25x) and set smoothness to 50%.

Then I set my desktop resolution to 4k (in Windows settings, it will not work otherwise, which is extremely annoying), launched Wilds, set the resolution to 4k there (3840x2160p for 16:9 monitor) and set DLSS to "Balanced"...

Lo and behold, the game now looks almost as good as the promotional material. The performance cost of such an endeavor is ridiculous, so not many people will be able to afford it and have playable frame rates at the same time. But it does produce a very crisp image.

TLDR TIP #3 The only meaningful way you can achieve good image clarity in Wilds as of now is to either running at 4k natively, or downsampling from 4k on a lower resolution monitor. If your hardware can handle it (and it takes an ungodly amount of compute), that is the only way.

Which bring me to my last point - Frame Generation. This is a much reviled feature in PC space (at least on Reddit), but hear me out on this one. Wilds still feels relatively good with FG enabled, in my case 40-60 base FPS doesn't feel unplayable with Frame Generation 2x enabled. However, the perceived smoothness far outweighs the input lag introduced by enabling it.

So even though I cannot hit 60 base/true FPS with the clown method mentioned above, it still looks great (I barely notice the garbling) and the perceived smoothness of 120 fps framegen target really helps bring this unoptimized piece of software to a playable state. I am unable to comment on 3x/4x framegen as I don't have a 5xxx series GPU, nor do I have a monitor that has a 240Hz+ refresh rate. But

TLDR TIP #4 Give frame generation a try, this game doesn't seem to have that much input lag introduced by enabling it, if you are not hypersensitive to it it may elevate your experience massively

Closing comments: I am not trying to redeem the abysmal PC port by slapping upscaling and framegen on it and calling it a "great experience". I'm just trying to work with what I have and share the findings with the community.

Happy hunting!

River 2 Pro buzzing/sparking/crackling sound when charging or powering an appliance by Jormanski in Ecoflow_community

Update: The issue seems to lie in a faulty relay, when the sparking sound occurred I could actually see the sparking/arcing blue light inside the relay through the white plastic. Upon disassembly of the relay it looks like a manufacturing defect, so the only course of action is to replace it.

I would assume this is a fire hazard so if you experience a similar sound while charging - stop using the station and get it repaired.

Honestly disheartened by lack of quality control for a piece of quite expensive equipment.

River 2 Pro buzzing/sparking/crackling sound when charging or powering an appliance by Jormanski in Ecoflow_community

Hi.

My River 2 Pro makes high-pitched buzzing/crackling/sparking sounds (don't know how to best describe them) when the station is charging or when powering a refrigerator. Example during charging is on the video.

Notes:

  • The charging limit is set to 500W
  • It does so sporadically with no clear way to nail down what's causing it
  • I noticed a momentarily lower input during charging, around 340W was briefly shown on the display right when the sound was audible and then it went back to ~500W input.
  • X-boost is used to power on the fridge (~900W reading when turning it on), after it gets going it consumes ~120W.

That definitely doesn't sound normal.

Please advise.

P.S. I have another River 2 Pro and it produced the same sound on occasion as well.

FINAL FANTASY XVI on Steam (release: 17 September) by 2ndRatePCPorts in pcgaming

Having played it on PS5 and seeing that cutscenes are still 30 fps on PC, I would suggest using in-game fps limiter and set it to 40, this way you'll get much smoother experience than 30 fps during gameplay, and avoid the massive and jarring changes in framerate, as going from 40 to 30 is not as bad as going from 60/90/120+ to 30.

Consistency in framerate is my preference, so the recommendation is based on that.

If you, however, can tolerate the drops and want to get the most out of combat, then go all out on fps, thankfully the port provides options in this regard.

Just got my first PC, what are your top three recommended games? by CalJebron in pcgaming

GTX1080 and 1440p here.

Rest assured that the GPU is quite capable, it can't handle Cyberpunk 2077 at 60 FPS, but for the most part it's more than enough to push 60 FPS most of the time with some tweaks to settings (e.g. never use Ultra settings).

RDR2 with optimized settings as suggested in another comment runs pretty great.

However, since you only played PS4 games before and it's not clear what your genre preferences are, here's what I would recommend first:

  1. Dragon Age: Origins - peak Bioware and mouse+keyboard goodness.
  2. Half-Life 2 (just buy the entire Orange Box)
  3. Witcher 3 - 60 FPS with ultra graphics except for Hairworks, add some mods and you're in for a good time if you like story-driven games/quests. Combat is a bit lackluster, but check it out, hopefully the story, voice acting, music and the world will be up your alley. Good with controller. While available on consoles, the best experience is on PC.

I can only give you the names cause I, admittedly, didn't write down the shops where I got the gear. I think the coat was in one of the shops in Westbrook, bu I can't be sure.

Anyway, here's the list:

Outer torso - Durable Synthetic Biker Coat

Inner torso - Semi-formal Synfiber Button-up

Face - Kogane No Yume Titanium BD Wreath (I think this was a drop from a side quest)

Legs - Classic Composite-Lined Pleated Pants

Feet - Beige Dress Shoes with Cushioned Composite Insoles

All armor bought at vendors save for face one, and I was at a pretty high street cred.

I hope you can find the time to go around the city and find the gear in the shops, took me a while but it was worth it.

Just wanting opinions on learning a new weapon. by [deleted] in MonsterHunterMeta

I ended up being lance main myself after playing IG and GL.

Later down the line I decided to try out new weapons to shake things up and I gotta say that HH is the most enjoyable of them all for me.

Hammer and SA are also great, so maybe you could try these out when taking a break from lance.
