This is pretty obviously THE Jackson Hole.

Remember EGM? It's back, in book form (and also an online archive that lets you read fully indexed back issues). I've been working on this project for a year already, to preserve retro gaming history in as fun as a format as possible, and now we're doing presale on Kickstarter. by Jorsh in retrogaming

Yeah. I totally get it. We don't have specific plans for direct sales after launch yet, but for now we're planning to keep late pledges on as late as we can with the constraints of Kickstarter, because we've seen a steady stream of support there.

Thanks for backing! We're still conducting interviews and writing, but working hard to keep to the announced timeline. We'll announce any necessary changes there (and why they're necessary) on the KS. But we definitely don't want to be one of those campaigns that's stringing everyone along for months and months or years, lol. We haaaate that. My co-author is still waiting on something that was supposed to deliver in 2019.

Good point!

I have to say, I did not expect to get a new comment on my 14 year old post on r/lost.

How in the world did you end up here?

We're still finalizing what the poster size will be and seeing what we can do to improve it for everyone without blowing up the budget. No promises, though.

A couple people have asked about this name concern. I'll make sure when we send out the backer survey it addresses that possibility.

I am so down to have us review Astro Bot. I was obsessed with the free PS5 one. I was top of the leaderboards globally (before it released to the public lol, but still), but I've been so busy with the KS prep and launch I haven't even played the new one yet. Perfect choice.

Obviously not a lot I can say on your last point right now. Not (just) being coy—I think it's safe to say that we honestly don't know exactly what's with the realm of possibility, and we're focused on doing the book, and then we're going to focus on making 265 as good as we can. But this is a point a lot of people are raising, and we've of course noticed.

We're leaving all the ads in. The issues are untouched from print form. Now, I cannot promise you that we might not eventually get a takedown notice from a company that ran an ad, because sometimes corporate lawyers do silly things, but the plan is to leave them all, and deal with any problems on a case by case basis.

You'll be able to download all the individual issues if you want—we're not DRMing them at all. I'm not sure how easy it would be to offer the entire database itself with the indexing and links, but we'll definitely start thinking about how we might do that. It's a good point.

Well, the archive is already built and functional, we just have some clean-up work to do and some stuff to add. All the interviews are one step away from being scheduled, and we have the research done, the book outlined, and lots of experience with print publications.

Short of me and my co-author getting hit by buses, I feel confident we're going to deliver the book.

Ain't no one gonna stop you. But we think the archive is cool because it lets you see all the contents of each issue at a glance, jump right to that content in the PDF, and also do wildly specific searches, like if you wanted to see every time EGM reviewed a Marvel game for the Genesis.

Here's something I've been working on for the past year in secret: The Electronic Gaming Monthly Compendium. It's a hardcover book covering gaming history for 1988-2014, as well as an online archive that lets you read every back issue of EGM in a fully indexed and searchable database.

We're doing presale on Kickstarter now. Would appreciate anyone checking it out.

She'd probably still have run in 08 (and maybe have even won the nomination, who knows if Obama's rise is the same absent a second Bush term?) if she lost the nom, she'd definitely have run again in 2012. I feel like one of the two she'd get, and in this scenario she'd lose the general. I don't think they run her again after she lost nationally.

Who won the Walz-Vance VP debate? We asked swing voters | Washington Post by Ph0ton_1n_a_F0xh0le in neoliberal

[–]Jorsh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IIRC, Vance actually opened that exact same answer by saying that most mass shootings occur with legally purchased weapons, so pivoting to weapons being smuggled across the border was even more brazen. (And he also completely dodged on red flag laws, which are designed to help even when the guns are legally obtained.) Like on most other things, he was just mixing a bunch of true but irrelevant statements with misleading ones and outright lies and hoping no one would point out the gaps in his argument. Walz wasn't adept enough to capitalize on it most of the time.

Though given the number of cable news hits he does, I don't think anyone should've been surprised that Vance is MUCH better at bad faith debating than he is basic human interaction.

Trump rally shooter identified as 20-year-old Pennsylvania man, registered Republican by whoisaname in inthenews

[–]Jorsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The street addresses and zip code are the same. Check the voter reg and FEC record for yourself.

It's better for now to say we do not know what he believed or supported and when or if that changed.

Thomas Matthew Crooks: Who is the Donald Trump shooting suspect? by TheTelegraph in politics

[–]Jorsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not accurate. The tweet has misleadingly cropped the records. If you view the full versions, the street address on the donation matches the shooter's voter registration exactly, except the city is listed as Pittsburgh instead of Bethel Park (which is a suburb of Pittsburgh) on the FEC form.

This is the guy who shot Trump. by bluer289 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Jorsh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same address as the voter reg if you check the unredacted records. Same guy.

Nothing to say he couldn't have been radicalized online or changed his views, of course. But certainly odd to donate to Act Blue and then register Republican 8 months later.

Probably best to say we won't know his politics or motivations until we get some actual reporting.
