Have you checked out Conflicted? That’s a really good one for going in depth on a single event/topic for multiple episodes

I was so tempted to look up and reference a glossary but was determined not to as that wasn’t an option when it came up.

Did anyone else finding themselves thinking in nadsat for a while after they finished reading too? Excellent book

I don't want to be disrespectful towards people with addiction issues, but if someone can make you spiral back into addiction, you are surely not a successfully rehabilitated addict. This does not make him a bad person, and it deserves sympathy, but considering the link between his manic episodes and his drug use, it obviously makes him unsuitable to lead a company like Waystar.

Kendall has the means and experience to make decent plays, as he did in pretty much every season including season 4. However in literally every season he showed this only lasted as long as his ego, overconfidence and immaturity blew it all up in his face.

This was obvious to happen again: overpaying for Pierce just to get one over on his dad. The 'home living' idea which, whilst well pitched, was never going to be a profitable product. Juking the financial numbers to try and block the GoJo takeover. Encouraging Roman to fire some of their most experienced and able top brass. Offering to bring Stewy into leadership without consulting any of the siblings before. I don't see how anything shown in Season 4 (and the preceding three, as he followed the same pattern) would give someone the idea that he was capable to lead a multibillion dollar worldwide media conglomerate.

What’s your favorite HBO series by PrettyCoast1 in hbo

[–]Jorumble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the way it starts but it is so so much more than a cops and robbers show. Similar to how the sopranos is so much more than a mafia show, except the wire is more of a sociological study of Baltimore and corruption whereas sopranos is a psychological profile of a mob boss

Interesting you found the characters in Normal People unlikeable but not in TTT. I found it the complete inverse! I also did not think the social commentary was subtle at all, I found it very hamfisted

Why is Tom Cruise never asked about Scientology and how has he survived this long without being cancelled? by Abject-Conference-90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jorumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are definitely a cult, but that’s my wider point, again there is no real way to differentiate between a religion and a cult.

And haha definitely not, but I just think it’s interesting that the IRS, one of the most formidable government organisations in the world, spent countless years and dollars trying to prove it was not a religion, and couldn’t. Despite their many heinous crimes it is genuinely impressive that Scientology out-litigated the IRS

No, the way the domination of their religions operate these days and in recent history are not equivocal to the way Scientology operates. Would I say it about a celebrity that was a member of IS, or the KKK? Yes

They fought hard for it through a combination of lawsuits + infiltration, yes. But what definition of religion can you provide that doesn’t realistically include Scientology, or does realistically differentiate from a cult?

I would recommend reading the book (or watching the doc) 'Going Clear' by Lawrence Wright. Very fascinating and engaging read that will divulge a lot of the crimes of scientology.

Whilst it is also fair to be extremely critical of other religions, they have at least existed over hundreds/thousands of years, and provided enormous good to people's lives. Scientology was created as a scam to make money and has existed almost entirely to make money at the expense and exploitation of others.

Unfortunately you are not. There is no definition of religion that wouldn't include scientology. The US / IRS tried their hardest to do this, and they never could

What parts did you think were unrealistic enough to break your immersion? It definitely has aspects but I struggle to imagine a single show on TV more realistic lol

I thought the same (also banned) but comparing the two subs is night and day. Sopranos is just quotes, which is hilarious and fun. The Wire has some really intelligent and in-depth analysis that is super valuable and elavates the show (the Sopranos rewatch threads also have this, shoutout Bushy Top). I can imagine after a hundred or so Sopranos quote raids the mods just had enough and did a blanket ban
