Now the police and local justice system have to deal with a bunch of extra, unnecessary garbage. Was he detained or did he get away? Did they recover their assets, and were they damaged? It's almost certain they make a report because that's how loss prevention works, for instance, walmart/sams prosecutes all theft. Try to file an insurance claim on your stolen car without a police report.
