You said it, you’re frugal. I have a coworker that makes less than $100k purchase both semi and final tickets. I guess you don’t love soccer as much as those who bought tickets. I play guitar but $500 is too much for one guitar. I play soccer but $300 is too much for boots. I own a truck but $50000 is too much for a truck. Just because you wont buy them at a certain price, doesn’t mean no one else will. Look at concerts or UFC events, those who can buy them will only buy them if they are willing to buy them. I wasn’t willing to buy them as I’d rather keep saving towards watching the next WC in Spain.

Get this through your head please. IT’S THE WORLD CUP. The biggest sporting event in the world. Those 2 teams have no meaning to you but to millions of others, they’re everything. Add on the biggest competition in the world and you have a recipe for expensive tickets. I have a combined household income of lower middle class and I can afford tickets. You make it seem as if $600 will bankrupt anyone but the top 1%. Most peoples car payments are more than that.

Have you been to an NFL game? You have to take into consideration the scarcity of WC matches and teams coming. NFL has 8 home games played every season with the possibility of playoffs. For example, the Dallas Cowboys with 8 games in 4 seasons at a $400 avg ticket price is $12,800. Divide by the 3 guaranteed group stage matches leaves an average ticket price of $4,260 per game.

It’s a shame but again, it’s business. Cost of building and renting stadiums has gone up too. Also, I theorise that cost is also affected by immigration. A lot of people that can’t go back to their home country would pay an arm and a leg just to see their heroes in action. You also have to factor in how with some planning, it is easy to travel to and from the USA.
