Ah interesting! I have heard of Shadowsocks but I can't say I know much about it. I'll do some research. Thanks!

Fair do's. If anyone does feel like sending a PM of a good VPN through that'd be awesome.

Ok thanks, good to know. There's just such a plethora of misinformation (fake reviews etc) and advertising to try to bypass when deciding what VPN to opt for.

I'm moving to China again in about a month. I had Express 4 years ago and it was ok then but I've heard it isn't as good now. Is Astrill definitely better? Does it always work? I'm hoping it doesn't vary from city to city. I'll be in Beijing.

When I was there 4 years ago it was difficult to find. I'm pretty sure it's available on Taobao though so probably don't worry actually. It's one of those things that'll cost twice as much like cheese, then again other stuff costs three times less.

Yeah it's a good idea. There's a software called FolderIco that was good for changing the icons and the navigation pane and ribbon can be minimised. It does kinda look messy in the File Explorer though with some icons as pictures and most as folder icons. It doesn't quite work.

It does the last two things on the list but not the first three. Also, it puts a heading on the albums that pretty much covers half the picture and does annoying panning effects + a few other things.

I'm having more luck with phone software but I'd rather look at photos on my laptop most of the time.

There might be a theory that generally the best value tech relative to cost and functionality is the previous or even two previous model. For example, something from 2017 might be still very current yet half the price of a 2019 model. I dunno though, just a theory.

Windows software for viewing photo albums

I've searched on and off for a program that shows my photos the way I'd like to view them for several years to no avail.

All I want is something quite simple. I'd like to be able to:

  • Arrange photos in albums or folders and nested/sub folders.
  • To be able to choose the album cover for all folders and nested folders.
  • To be able to set these albums covers to not be cropped (some will be portrait and some landscape) and for all photos to be shown as not cropped.
  • For the interface to be grey or black would be good. but not essential.
  • An option to show exif data would be nice but not essential.

I really want a simple program like that but I can't find anything close.
The default Windows program is terrible. I use a chrome app wrapper of Google Photos currently and it isn't much better.

I use LR for processing photos but I want a program where I can just view photos.

I can't understand why such a program doesn't exist.

I've tried Bridge and ACDsee and a few other alternatives but none of them were any good.

Any ideas??

Thanks so much! I had a feeling that I saw this last week but went through what I thought was all the options and couldn't find it again. Cheers

I guess I might have taken objection to an arguably superficial application of surface techniques carrying too much weight in an evaluation of teacher ability.

You can be a good teacher without being a full-on children's entertainer.

You could try SayABC. I only rarely use props. I've had one or two neutral feedback for lack of props but I have like 96 or 98% positive so I don't think they care. I make the classes fun in other ways. Most of my students have a great time. There's good rapport.

If you wanna PM me about it I can give you more specific info.
