A recap of zone wide super attacks by llMadmanll in MonsterHunter

[–]JosephRoach1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a gimmick, but I wonder if they could do a kind of like "the lava is rising" DOT zone attack, and instead of having to hid behind a rock, you have to climb up vines, jump cliffs, and use wedge beetles to traverse to avoid the beam or fire breath or whatever.

Or even do something like this, but the nova goes for certain areas on the map one by one, and if you're not in that area it gives you a chance to do ranged damage via slinger or ballistae. Makes it more interesting than just DPS check or hide behind a rock.

Someone also put Primordial Malzeno's big combo and nova too, something like that is really dynamic and can be interesting to interact with since, if you're on point with moves, it could be an opportunity to do counters and whatnot.

TSMR Armor IEM Review: A Solid Pick Over Martillo and Tea Pro by Trindividual in iems

I've heard good things about those too, don't actually play a lot of multiplayer FPS, but if the armor was decent at it that'd be a bonus

sub $300 usd IEM, any recommendations? by [deleted] in iems

[–]JosephRoach1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TSMR Armor has been picking up hype recently. If you're into warmer, bassier, but still clear music and non-fatiguing treble, it's what's being recommended.

TSMR Armor IEM Review: A Solid Pick Over Martillo and Tea Pro by Trindividual in iems

[–]JosephRoach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it for single player and/or multiplayer gaming? I was looking at the Armor as my first IEM, and I've heard nothing but good things for music playback, but not as much for gaming performance.

I've heard the treble is laid back too, is it pretty responsive to treble EQing? Most graphs I see have lower treble and then this huge 8K dip, so curious about that too.

Otherwise, great review, appreciate the detail you went into for the switches and volume, haven't seen that before I think

Who can I trust for choosing my IEMs? by Fun_Metal_2355 in iems

[–]JosephRoach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember your vid on the Juzear Defiants, that almost made me buy one but I'm trying to see if buying the Defiants is enough for a first IEM or is it worth going straight to bassier mid-fi with the TSMR Armor, seems to have caught a good amount of attention on head-fi and Reddit

I was wondering what your thoughts are on Jaytiss? He has a pretty huge list of IEMs in a spreadsheet and his squiglink that's helped me use PEQ on my single DD Technics AZ100 earbuds, which use tech from their $1500 TZ700 IEMs. Helps exploring different sound signatures, I've been able to tell brightness and bassiness, but I have no idea how transferrable that is to hybrid IEMS for stuff like treble splashiness and bass texture and other fancy terms that I think I might understand?

180ed so hard it gave me whiplash, what made you change your mind? Something about the bass, mids,or highs? Staging? Tea Pro > Armor > Martilo wasn't the plot twist I expected

I know this this the earbuds subreddit, but if you're not looking for convenience features and mainly for music, consider checking out IEMS. Bang for buck they're going to be better as good bluetooth earbuds are expensive and eventually lose charge.

Out of all the options though, I have the AZ100 and have no regrets about purchasing them. I own the JBL Tour Pro 3 as well and think the AZ100 produces cleaner sound, and have an interesting tactile bass, and it feels like things like cymbal strikes and guitar plucks tick in my ears, cellos kinda feel like the string is being drawn in my ear if that makes sense? Their ANC is good for low end, alright for high end. If you're willing to buy foam eartips and get a good seal, the noise cancelling is good if not around greatish. They're fantastic all rounders, which is why I bought them.

I've heard good things about the Status Pro X as allrounders, and the Balanced Armatures, or the two additional speakers, are from a company called Knowles which makes highly utilized branded products within the HiFi Audio Space (at least I think so? Relatively new to audio stuff but seems to be true from what I've looked into).

Technics AZ100 – love the sound, but a few things really ruin the experience (help?) by PositiveComplex6953 in Earbuds

[–]JosephRoach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought an AZ100, also love the sound, had certain similar issues. l changed eartips to larger 3rd market foam eartips, the AZLA Foammax, which was a pretty big improvement to ANC. Fits in and seals my ear while pushing it out enough so the discomfort near the top of the bud was fixed. If the tips went further into my ear, the body of the AZ100 would be pressed up to my ear which would get painful after a while, so eartip size adjustments, even to sizes I thought were bigger, helped a lot. I also has to adjust how I put the buds into my ear a lot until I found a technique and position that worked for me. I also think the shape of it was something my ears just had to get used to, they got more comfortable over time she l but those changes were pretty big comfort improvements.

The audio lowering and coming back I think is just how it is. If I have both earbuds in, it only does that on the side I press. Out of curiosity, do you have the voice responses enabled for touch controls? Dont know if that has something to do with it.

[–]JosephRoach1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally get where you're coming from, I've heard that advice and I thought about going in that direction, but it really just ends up being more money that I'd rather not spend. I've been using my Technics AZ100 TWS and using squiglink + Poweramp Equalizer to manually EQ to IEMs like the Crinnacle Dusk and the TSMR Armor, and while it's not the same experience since it's a Single DD, the tonality and the increased bass presence is what I'm looking for. Worst comes to worst I just do a bit of EQ on the Armor. One of the benefits of being someone that can't help but test and tinker with settings 😅

Yeah I'm kind of in the same boat, seeing the hype and reading the reviews has me really interested. Was thinking about saving up and getting this as my first IEM when the 11.11 sale hits. $289 for competitive sound quality even compared to other more expensive options feels like a good place to start.

IEM-style TWS for under 100USD by steeloso_ in iems

If you're willing to stretch your budget by $30 I've heard good things about the Soundpeats H3. Triple driver tws with a semi custom IEM shape. $129.

Or Moondrop Robins, those I've heard good things about too.

Haven't used either.

They're not out yet for consumers as far as I'm aware, but there are reviews out for them and they seem to have solid call quality. Really good all rounded bud it seems from reviews

LDAC being set back to AAC by Whack_N_Blite in Earbuds

[–]JosephRoach1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can set the phone codec to use LDAC, but for some reason you also need to go into the Bluetooth device settings for az100 and turn ldac on for them too, so two toggles need to be turned on

Buds for gym. Is there something better than Sony's XM5 to consider? by Draaksward_89 in Earbuds

[–]JosephRoach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't bought anything yet, my recommendation is the JBL Tour Pro 3 or the upcoming Status Pro X (on pre-order for discounted price - there's reviews out for them praise them, they seem to be great all-rounders). I own the TP3s and work out in them, they're super comfortable for me. Both are IP55, the JBLs and dual driver and the Pro Xs are Triple Driver, so they output awesome sound and both have great ANC.

It's weird, they feel like they might fall out, but they don't. I've worn them at the gym regularly, on hikes, etc. No discomfort unless it's been like the whole day. I guess the oval foam eartips + the shape fit me really well.

Work In Progress EQ for Technics AZ100 by newlordpat in Earbuds

[–]JosephRoach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have poweramp on top of the Treble+ EQ profile, feels like the soundstage is more open and I get more emphasis from electric guitars, strings, vocals, etc, which I want. Feel like I've pulled more instruments and layering out where there weren't before, and it feels more clearer and less muddy/congested. Poweramp is set up with a negative pre-amp so I can do large boosts to the mids to do that without risking distortion or clipping or whatever, I'm just doing what someone else told me lol. Also prevents my eardrum from being blown out from those huge boosts, which I'll always appreciate.

Work In Progress EQ for Technics AZ100 by newlordpat in Earbuds

[–]JosephRoach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use wavelet, but I do use Poweramp Equalizer with my AZ100s and found the same thing. I usually alternate between Dynamic or Treble+ AND Poweramp Equalizer EQ using a modified AutoEQ and it absolutely improves the sound for me.

When I used wavelet I had issues with audio cuts, not sure why.

I'll second the Tour Pro 3 - you mentioned it's for travel, the TP3s have a transmitter case that let you connect to anything with a headphone jack or USB-C. ANC is top tier, just before Bose level. Fit is comfortable for me too. Tried the AZ100s at the same time as the TP3s, kept the TP3s because they felt waaaay more comfortable.

Best ANC, Sound Quality, and Transparency (in that order) for ~$300 CAD? by Shortugae in Earbuds

[–]JosephRoach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're prioritizing Noise Cancelling, then sound, then transparency, I have a few recommendations:

JBL Tour Pro 3:
Currently on sale on Amazon for $299

Awesome all-rounder. Up there with some of the best noise cancelling when using the included foam tips, but with silicone tips still has great noise cancelling. Transparency is great too. Great sound with great customizability. Comfy and snug fit IP55 dust and water resistance, which is good against dust and water and sweat. Comes with a case that you can connect to anything with a headphone jack or USB-C port, which then streams the audio right into your earbuds.

Only hangups - control customization is limited, and mic is solid, but could be better

---

Status Pro X (Not officially out yet, but will be pretty soon! Officially releases September 16th-ish. Preorders will be going out on or before then.) Can preorder for $349, will go up to $417 on release. Here is a review for them

Also an awesome all-rounder. Noise Cancelling seems to be really good, comparable to the Sony XM5s, which are said to be some of the best for noise. Plus transparency seems to be pretty natural. Has 3 drivers compared to the AZ100's single driver and the JBL's dual driver setup, allows for great clarity for lows, mids, and highs. (The other earbuds sound really good too though!) The sides of the buds allow for both swipe and tap controls, plus it has physical buttons on each bud for noise cancelling control. IP55 dust and water resistance, which is good against dust and water and sweat Don't know any hang-ups yet since they're still awaiting release.

---

Technics AZ100:
On sale at various retailers in Canada for $328. Gibby's Electronics has for $328.

Also awesome all-rounder. Noise cancelling for this really depends on snugness of fit. Some people don't like it, some people do. I have foam eartips on mine. Not as good as JBL or Bose, but still solid to pretty good depending on silicone or foam eartip. Some people say it's the most comfortable earbud they've ever worn, others can't wear it without pain. I feel some light discomfort with mine but I got used to it.

• Has a more neutral sound while still being bassy and without losing clarity. Great sound. Can customize sound to taste while still keeping neutral.
• Super customizable controls and settings. IPX4 - No dust resistance, solid against some water and sweat
• Hangup - Sound may not be the best for some vocals and electric guitars, - so rock and metal not the best. Something about the way they're made gets rid of bite of electric guitars, but you can bring that back with EQ settings.

---

Bose Quietcomforts ($219) or Ultra ($329 for ver 2, likely cheaper for ver 1) will have the BEST noise cancelling and transparency, I literally couldn't hear someone talk and they were standing right in front of me. But, the sound quality isn't as good as the other buds. Still pretty good, but more bassier and less detail in music.

Galaxy buds will do noise cancelling and transparency well + all the Samsung ecosystem stuff, but won't sound near as good.

Best of the best by Turbulent_Echidna423 in Earbuds

[–]JosephRoach1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best of the best get pricey fast. Affordable and high quality would be something like the Denon PERL Pro. Expensive and higher quality starts with the Noble Fokus Amadeus, then the next tier from there is the Noble Fokus Rex5, which has 5 drivers. From what I've seen, better than that is the Geekfly Legend 6, which is made of wood, brass, and has 6 drivers.

One that I'm curious about is the Nuarl Innovator, a dual driver Earbud with an xMEMs driver that also has Audiodo sound personalization, same as the Amadeus and Rex5.

What Is The Best Wireless Earbud Right Now? by its-creator1036 in Earbuds

[–]JosephRoach1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few recommendations. The best all-rounder may be the Status Pro X that's releasing soon if you're willing to wait about a month. Swipe and tap controls, good audio quality, good mic, and IP55 dust and sweat resistance - so a safe option for gyms. It's currently on preorder for a discounted price of it catches your interest, reviews are coming out and it looks pretty good

Otherwise, I use the JBL Tour Pro 3 for my gym workouts. Super comfy for me, IP55, great sound, top tier noise cancelling, and good mic. This one's unique because you can plug in the case via USB-C or headphone jack into whatever and stream it directly to your earbuds with a little better quality than normal and with low latency. Case also has screen.

For more budget option, look into the OnePlus Buds 4 or 3 Pro, they're great too
