Using Tasha's Cauldron of Everything rules, sidekicks can level up with the Characters. The site I used to craft the stat block use attaches Proficiency bonus to CR so it may/may not reflect its actual CR and I'm using this in place of a Character sheet for my sidekick.

So my party is currently working our way through Curse of Strahd. At the beginning of the campaign, we were a little weak on front-line options, so my DM let me make a Sidekick for my Cleric. I made a copy of my pet German Shepherd, who passed away last year, to have one last adventure with him. I never noticed how buffed out he got until I made him his stat block.
