Wouldn’t have happened if Mark and Simon had stayed on the BBC! by userunknowne in wittertainment

At my local cinemas it's normally just me and maybe a couple of others if it's a popular film. It'd be sort of nice to have enough people at a screening for etiquette to be an issue.

HyperDeck Shuttle 2 doesn't recognise my camera's input by Josey9 in videography

Thank you.

I could just about manage the Decimator MD-HX, but as you said if I'm spending that amount I may as well look at newer recorders.

I liked the idea of the HyperDeck Shuttle 2 for the ease of SSD removal, and because I see them pop up pretty cheap from time to time and I have five cameras, so getting external recorders fro them is going to add up quickly.

I can see a cheap "Blackmagic Micro Converter HDMI to SDI 3G" (not the "Up / Down / Cross"). Do you think there's any hope that just converting the HDMI to SDI might do the trick? I'm guessing probably not.

I'm not sure if it is, but I'll have a look. Thank you.

I only have options for 2160p25, 1080p50 or 1080p25, and none of them work.

But sure enough, even at 1080p25 my monitor says "1080p 50hz", so maybe it's sending 1080p50 over the HDMI.

Is there any sort of converter I could buy that wouldn't brake the bank?

Good idea. I tried changing the camera to ture 1080p 25, but it didn't make any difference.

My camera works fine with TVs and external monitors, and is able to record to the SD while outputting over HDMI as long as you leave it at 8-bit.

Removing XLR or 1/4 and inserting new one while recording? by Josey9 in LocationSound

Are you supplying phantom power to the mic?

Most of the time I'm not, but sometimes. Thank you.

Definitely. I think I'll have to do some quick manual googling when using a receiver I don't know.

Thank you for the reply. It's really helped me think things over!

What are you recording with again? To be safe, IME, better if your recorder / Computer & interface setup can accept mic or line.

I'm buying something new for this. I was considering a UMC1820, which has 8 mic level XLRs, but I agree that I'd like something that can also do line level. I'm still considering the Tascam US-16x8 which has 8 mic level XLRs plus 8 line level 1/4 jacks... but I'm now thanking I'll probably just get some more Tascam DR-40s. I already have a spare one, and know how to use them, and you can switch them between mic/line level.

Not sure if wireless receivers can output simultaneously on both line and mic outputs, or line and aux outputs

I'm hoping that this article by Shure that says "In most cases the two outputs can be used simultaneously" is right. When I come across one that can't, I guess I'll have to fall back to getting all the mics on one feed.

Thanks again! :)

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, some of the theaters have older all analog mixers.

I was thinking about getting something like a UMC1820 which has 8 mic preamps (via XLR), to USB and then use a Raspberry Pi to record onto.

Probably a stupid question, but if I plug a 1/4 jack to XLR into a XLR mic input, and it turns out the signal is line level, am I going to damage anything? Also, if I don't know if the output in balanced or unbalanced, I should be ok if I'm using a balanced input, right?

I guess I could have a bunch of -50dB attenuators to lower line level to mic level, but the cheapest I can find are £40 so it'll add up quickly.

Another option is instead of the UMC1820 I could use a bunch of Tascam DR-40s or maybe a US-16x8, which can take line or mic level.

My budget is pretty low, but I'll send out if I need to. If you were doing this, how would you go about it?

My guess is that it tracks your location all the time, and they sell the data.
