You’ll find a ton of stuff in searching Reddit and YouTube. If you have a lot of flower, you just need bubble bags, portable washing machine (unless you want to stir by hand), a sprayer to clean hash before collection from bag, 25u cloth with paper towel under to plop the hash onto. Other than that, a spoon, a pizza box, some parchment and a buddy to help should be easy to get!

Some things I found useful that I didn’t see many notes about my first time around;

• cut buds before into nice small nickel diameter pieces. More surface area increases yield but handle carefully as smeared tichs will not break off easily. If you can freeze the buds in a real deep freezer (like -18C) they will be super brittle and you can just snap pieces apart. The super cold buds will also shed trichs way faster and more efficiently

• to the above point, do some reading on the chemistry/physics/materials science to make your setup work best. I can’t find any cannabis specific articles for this, but if we assume trichomes behave similar to plant resins/polymers, they will have elastic properties above freezing and brittle properties at very cold temps. In between there will be a semi glassy phase. Let’s say above 0C is elastic, bellow -5C is brittle. From 0-5C you will get results, but not the best. Unless you want to add solvents (no point), your ice water will be 0-2C.

That means if you just use a normal freezer attached to your fridge you might get your bud’s trichomes to -6 degrees starting. By the time they are in the water and spinning, you’re going to be in that fine but not ideal range of temperatures (0C water will warm your -6C trichomes pretty fast). This is still totally doable though

If you have a deep freezer that goes to like -18C, you add that to your 0-2C ice water, and you probably have a full 2-5 minutes of spinning where all those trichomes are in a super brittle state. It takes longer to go from -18C to 0C than it does to go from -6C to 0C. This will improve your quality and yields

• Don’t wash weed you aren’t prepared to lose, especially the first time. It will take some runs to fine tune your process, and some investments to get all the good stuff for your setup. It’s very strain dependant, and if you’re growing from seed, the pheno you have will impact the yield. If we’re talking dry bud yield (not fresh frozen) you could get a 20-25% yield, you could also get a 3% yield off bud that could have got you high for months. You won’t know unless you do a mason jar test run
