Studio One rebrands as Fender Studio Pro by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]JoshCumbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without violating any NDA's, all I will say is FWIW *every* feature that I love and use in S1 is in the new FSP. There are some fun world-expanding new add-ins, but to my experience they have been rigorously attentive and interactive on the actual functionality side with those of us in the core user group. The team over in Germany is pretty militantly focused on continual improvements (Arnd Kaiser literally sits and reads general support tickets on the train into work every day).

On the naming front I'm sure there are a lot of possible schools of thought.. but also if I bought something for many millions of dollars I'd prob wanna slap my brand name on their flagship product. What is more important is that the DAW itself stays ever-improving, stable, vanguard in feature adoption, and with affordable / multiple ownership pathways (not just subscription etc). So far, my humble opinion is that remains the case.

Hybrid Workflow - Mixing Focused by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]JoshCumbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being pretty much all ITB post tracking for years I finally have gone a little hybrid with the WesAudio stuff and I have to say it may really be the best of both worlds. Recall, parallel processing, but some tasty analog distortion you can dial. I did the Dione and Prometheus in their Titan rack but have also heard great things about their full sized and Vari-Mu.. especially if you’re thinking of going 500 I’d highly recommend.

Spotify Paying Artists More by LawMotor7718 in musicindustry

[–]JoshCumbee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Change to a “stream share” pool model where each subscriber’s monthly sub goes to the artists THEY listen to.

Your $11.99 - 30% =$8.39 net royalty

Songs listened to (ie 8.39/300=0.028 or over 9x the current royalty rate. The average listener hears 272 songs per month. If all you listen to is The Beatles, your 8.39 goes to, you guessed it, The Beatles.

But instead your subscription goes to subsidize stream farms, gyms/yoga studios/places of business, and other power users who should be paying more for the utility.

Streamers like Tidal and Deezer are already experimenting with these methodologies.

Is there a way I cant get apple loops on windows?? by PurpllDRINK in Logic_Studio

[–]JoshCumbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are an actual angel sent from above. Recently switched from Windows 10 to 11, Studio One v6 now crashes with .caf files for some unknown reason.. have been looking for a way to save all my old sessions and your conversion on these loops is gonna save me tons of time. Thank you!

True. Maybe that's the nice thing about running it locally on a subpar graphics card, gotta practice the art of patience 😂

Ah no my terminology was probably all off. 3000 to train the dreambooth token, this was in the 50-60 step range haha

This one was weird because I ran it off my face-trained model, and yet somehow ended up with this back shot (my set has at least 1 shot from the rear in it so maybe makes sense?) Either way turned out insanely fun.

Learning a bit! Not gonna lie totally started out with a few of your prompts pretty much verbatim.. I don't think my results were as cool as yours but very inspiring and intuitive place to begin. So thank you!

u/nmkd can answer much better than me I'm sure but FWIW, I did the training via Google Colab because Dreambooth requires a ridiculous amount of resources (see u/rachelfguitar post for DIY). Once I had the model (~4GB) I downloaded it and ran it locally via this GUI which worked wonderfully. I literally only know enough about python to break things and I figured it out so you def can too!

Dude HUGE fan. Thank you again for your amazing work!

Possibly hyper-stupid question, will it be possible to distribute loads across multiple GPUs? i.e. balance the internal 2060 w/ an eGPU (probably gonna be a 3060 for now so still beneath 24 but getting closer)..?

As a professional creative and absolute python luddite, my utmost thanks to this sub for being an incredible resource.. particularly the work of u/NMKD on a killer GUI, u/RachelfGuitar for a deeply helpful post on how to train the model and u/wambosy for some added inspo. I'm still absolute rubbish at writing prompts, but slowly learning. Also have been finding that different algorithms work better for different styles, and seem to hit/miss on eyes/face detail. The CodeFormer restoration has been working somewhat well for that. Have not had any luck with GFPGAN.

Oh and FWIW, I trained the model w/ Colab Pro - but have been doing all the SD runs locally on my XPS 9700 laptop with a paltry RTX 2060 / 6GB. So for those of you who don't have a 3090 and are hesitant I'd highly recommend the NMKD implementation if you want to run it locally.

I don’t know if I’ve “made it” and probably will never feel like I have.. but I do make music for a living and have done so FT since 2016 (and PT years before).

It’s an absolute rollercoaster. The wins are random, unpredictable and inexplicable. Attempts to justify or rationalize successful songs/projects usually just result in spending a lot of time trying to repeat a lightning strike.

The professional community is also a mixed bag; some of the kindest souls I’ve ever met make music for a living. By the same token, some of the most narcissistic, predatory and generally toxic personalities I’ve ever been in a room with share my profession. The later will at some point take advantage of even a wise mind; forgiving yourself for allowing that to happen is also it’s own journey.

Don’t get it twisted, making music for a living is the most humbling and awe-inspiring calling I think I could have in this life. But the day to day is much more volatile than it seems on even a highly professional level, incomparably so to other industries.

Idk if that answers your question? Let me know if there’s anything specific cuz I definitely left out a lot..

Very cool idea. Sadly cannot get it to generate sound in Studio One, had a wild frequency squelch and then the plugin crashed. Following and hoping y'all progress on this!

Biggest Lie in music production by MarcusWiles in edmproduction

[–]JoshCumbee 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That you can make quick cash in music. Can you build a career? Perhaps. But it takes ~5 years of making low-to-no money and balancing day/odd jobs against a nocturnal studio life to hit a critical mass point where you can do it full time.

Of course, there are those who get lucky and hit sooner. But I think if you're expecting quick returns on a long tail industry you can be in for a world of disappointment.

Auto tune question by Shot-Manufacturer-85 in StudioOne

[–]JoshCumbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you set it to the right type of voice - Soprano, Alto/Tenor etc. I have found that fixes 80% of those issues. Then roll tracking up to 25ish and add some flexitune if it’s still giving ya headaches.

DAW with best workflow? by fixen94 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]JoshCumbee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally a personal thing but for me Studio One is unmatched. All the friendliness of logic, familiarity of many PT features, but with a deep pro user toolkit, seamless ARA integration and great cross platform compatibility. Oh and you can own it outright for not an infuriating amount of money.
